Mini Modules

This link was posted by @M.C. Fujiwara in the Weekend Update thread.  I think this is a great idea. I'm familiar with the TableTop setups, but for some reason this guy has a design that looks more cohesive.

IMHO, this is a neat way to model a bunch of different scenes: you effectively "shadow box" everything to be separate.

It is a neat idea. I could also see doing this with existing T-Trak setups as well.

It's like OneTTrack.

I like it.

This is the T-Trak concept...although I'm somewhat of a fine scale 'snob', I fully embrace the Ntrak and Ttrak concepts, and am currently very actively involved in building, promoting, and growing a T-Trak 'sub' of our local Modelling group...(at home, on my layout, everything is code 55 and code 40). I'm continuously amazed at the amount of folks we see at shows who are still unaware of N scale; we not only recruit new folks to N scale, I get to meet 'in person' some of the folks who's fine work I get to see here on Railwire.
It's easy to see how this concept can work with a single track mainline (T-Trak standard feature a double track mainline), but what makes T-Trak work is the use of Kato Unitrack; the very positive connection of Unitrack is the key. In fact, it's the only thing that connects the modules-no clamps, etc.

I would imagine T-track wouldn't get alot of kind words in this group. Unitrack makes it an easy target, as do the youth built modules with dinosaurs and UFO's and stuff.

I've seen some T-Track modules that were quite nice though, and there seem to be more and more well done ones showing up. I think it's catching on that if you're going to build a diorama, why not build it within the bounds of T-Track.

You could fit a whole layout on each of those modules  ;)

Not true at all - Unitrak features prominently in several of our regular layouts - and as Bruce demonstrates TTrak can be done in a fairly prototypical manor.  Frankly, I"d take a set of well thought out T Trak modules over an Ntrak set any day due to the more realistic number of tracks.

A few weeks ago I had the thought that it would be neat if TRW had a 'standard' for some tabletop modules so members could get together at shows and showcase their modeling.

Then I got distracted by a piece of pie and totally forgot about it.

I think MC's trying to push in that general direction.

Makes transporting or shipping and detailing easier . The best use of this type of design IMO is a subway station viewed from the face of the fascia .

I simulated the tar-filled cracks on the highways of the 'mini-modules (T-Trak) using a Faber-Castell artists pen (warm gray)...
Thanks for looking,
