The other side of the car has The Grand Canyon Line. Didn't that train provide through service to LA?
I thought the comment was about the "San Francisco Chief" going to Los Angeles (what the car says).
Why do you think it says that on the other side? If you're using the Atlas page, you're looking at the same side of two different cars.Regardless, I think the cities usually matched with the name of the train advertised. In the case of the SF Chief, it looks like it just said 'California'.Jason
Ah... yes... OK. I don't think Atlas' art people pulled it out of... the air. I'll bet there's a proto photo in some obscure ATSF book, which would then make the original car a .
FYI: series had drop sills, either not important or easy to change....
I would only guess that was done at the time of a later shopping to increase capacity.
Good thing it was only a guess. I was really just basing it on my experience of NP practices and obviously not research.
