The other side of the car has The Grand Canyon Line. Didn't that train provide through service to LA?

Why do you think it says that on the other side?  If you're using the Atlas page, you're looking at the same side of two different cars.

Regardless, I think the cities usually matched with the name of the train advertised.  In the case of the SF Chief, it looks like it just said 'California'.

I thought the comment was about the "San Francisco Chief" going to Los Angeles (what the car says).

Ah... yes... OK. I don't think Atlas' art people pulled it out of... the air. I'll bet there's a proto photo in some obscure ATSF book, which would then make the original car a  :? .

LOL! I didn't scroll down to see that they were different cars!

The San Francisco part of the slogan is the awkwardness. With that omitted it works fine. Perhaps they tacked that on as some kind of pre-advertizing? The SF Chief didn't exist when this car was built.
I would assume that Atlas worked from a photo somewhere?

I'm sure someone is trying to locate that photo as we speak.  :)

Maybe Paul will chime in here with either a photograph or a plea to "Ed's Law".

FYI: series had drop sills, either not important or easy to change....

I would only guess that was done at the time of a later shopping to increase capacity.

There are photos of new CNW cars with these sills.

The Pullman database indicates as built....
No biggie, can be kitbashed or left alone! A nice looking car either way..

Good thing it was only a guess.  I was really just basing it on my experience of NP practices and obviously not research.   :D

Not such a bad guess at that, I've seen plenty of pics of PS1s with deep sills added when shopped at a later date.
I noticed this when they were first announced, but didn't mention it then as I felt I would be labeled as troublemaker!

I've adopted these Atlas cars as a kind of fetish and have done probably too much research. My MTL versions are all sold off and I am enjoying the Atlas releases immensely....  :D

Yes.  Thank you.  I also wondered about the build dates, but didn't mention it.

 :)
the pictured C&NW car has a Bolster to Bolster continuous side sill.
Wabash favored these sills for awhile.
look at the Rio Grande 1939 12 Panel Cookie Box cars built by Pressed
Steel for complete side sill from car end to car end.
the same era Rio Grande 3 door 40' Auto Boxes also had the complete
   side sill.
rebuilt cars sometimes had deeper sills added, but still weren't Drop Sills.
but that is a whole different pursuit.
