Module #2 Progress: Sugar Beet Refinery

Thought I would post some product development pictures. Those of you following the Sugar Beet Refinery project have seen Module #1. This is the first mock-up of Module #2, no textures or anything: just trying to get everything to fit right. This will connect to Module #1 to create a single structure.

Next, I will do up a fully painted and textured version: Concrete, brick, and shingled roofing. Maybe by this weekend?

Looks cool.  Do you have footprints for each of the phases?

Is there a part of this structure that would face the rail, or is there a bulk (un)loading facility— maybe phase 3?

Love the building, must skip a few lunches to afford one. The sliding door which looks like the only entrance?  It would only be one, but I vote cement.

 I didn't even think about this! The prototype doesn't have one so it didn't occur to me. But for the stand-alone version I will definitely have at least one personnel door. Thanks for pointing that out! I'll probably end up doing a concrete version, too. I like showing all the options.

Footprint for Module #1 is  3 1/4" x 3 11/16" x 4 3/8". This structure is about 9" x 3". Module #3 is about 9" x 3" as well.

The prototype had no unloading structure. In talking to someone who played in the buildings as a kid, I concluded the sugar beet gondolas, etc, were unloaded and everything (sugar beets, coal, coke, limestone) was put into piles and then was transported into the refinery by truck, or something. The guy said it was about a hundred yards from the unloading area to the smoke stack. For the stand alone version, I might put a loading dock on it like I did with Module #1.

I love the industrial look of that building - well done!  Was the original building all one floor or was there a floor on the 2nd level?

Good question. As far as I can tell it had both. Not many pictures of the inside:

I found this picture:

I'm pretty sure the slab at the lower right is the spot described to me as the area for spotting cars.

I also meant to add I love the look of the sliding door,  A loading dock would be great.  Would it go in front of the sliding door?

I have it placed to the right of the sliding door, with a small and large freight door. Pretty much the same setup I have on the Stand-alone version of module #1. I will hopefully have pics by Sunday.

I love the look of this building.  I can see so many kit-bashing opportunities in it.  :D

Ok...so here is the latest version. A few small adjustments and I will begin instructions. This is the brick on brick version, with ribbed aluminum roofing. Note the loading dock addition, and the personnel door:

Also, you can see here the location of customize-able engraving of the industry name.

Well, the all-concrete structure is my favorite, too. Loved this factory since I was very little. Will get to work right away on those instructions!
