BN 2 Bay ACF Hopper

Does anyone know what decal set would be appropriate for this car in N scale?

http://www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=54507

I've got Microscale set 60-251 which should provide all of the logos and numbers, but I cannot find the proper set for all of the data.  If there is not a BN set, would there maybe be a set for a different railroad with white data?

I was inspired by the header photo of mrkluke and have started a car with fading paint on a 2 bay Burlington hopper.

Thanks, Doug

Thanks, Jeff.

I used masking tape that I just tore at randomly for the mask.  I then came back with some 1000 grit sandpaper to try and soften the edges.  I also sanded the decals after they had set on the model.  I have not tried the rubber cement, or salt, method but would like to someday.  Here are some photos of where the cars stands today.  The first coat of weathering went on it last night.

I really like the way you've got the older Burlington lettering to show up thru the green.  Well done!

Thanks, Ed! I would have preferred a little bit more of the red to show through on the lettering, but I sanded the original printing down too much. Oh well, I'm still happy with the way it is coming along.

After seeing the original car Jeff did, I attempted (attempted being the key word here... ;) ) to replicate it.  I used enamel thinner and a Q-Tip to remove the Polly Scale green BN paint after it dried.  This allowed me to get the softer edges and irregular pattern.  I didn't think to use masking tape, so will add that trick to my kit bag for future use.  Used the same soaked Q-tip to slowly rub the decal after it had dried to remove some of the ink.  Key is to go slow or you'll end up going to far down into the paint and take the base coat off.  Did that in a couple spots, which is where the graffiti came to the rescue....

Nice job!

Cheers,
Brian

Thanks for the comments, it's great to hear from some people I really respect in the weathering/painting spectrum. Got some more work done on this one today.  I think I may have gone too heavy on the top, under the roofwalk and with the streaking from there.  Maybe a lighter color would help it look like surface rust, I think now it just looks like a lot of dirt was up there and the car just went through a rainstorm.

Brian - I remember we talked about your hopper and the way you did it.  I noticed that the area under the large B shows both the green and white, it is apparent on mine as well.  The decal was not opaque enough to cover both colors.  It is kind of a neat effect, but to me it looks like exactly what happened, the green color was taken off the white before the decal was applied.

Doug,

Great job on the car. Really like how the rust streaks and cuts in the side came out.  Oil paints?

Duh, just put two and two together...  Hope all is well on your end of the planet... :D

Cheers,
Brian

Looking good.  The rust cuts are really effective.  Are you working from photos for this job?  Could you post any (links) that capture the look of the roof you are going for?

That is some top-notch rust work!   I've noticed you removed the stirrups, are you planning to add wire parts?

Brian - All is well for me, I'm enjoying building a new layout and doing work like this.

Gary - I do not have a picture I am working from.  I'll have to do some browsing to see if there is one out there with the effect I am striving for.

Ed - Thank you!  I did not remove the stirrups, the concrete floor did that when I was putting clearcoat over the decals.  I will be using wire to redo them.
