While waiting for the Erie heritage unit this came to a stop in front of the St Denis MARC station to pick up about a dozen CSX personnel. Geometry train.

Never did find out what happened to 917

Although that's pretty severe, I wonder if some of that damage occurred from a hard coupling or two.  F-units were known to "wrinkle" at the corners of the nose from hard couplings.  I always wanted to figure out a way to model that look on an old, beat up F-unit.

It happened at the museum within the last few years.  RRpicturearchives has shots from 2010 and the nose is fine.  Whatever did it bent the nose but not the grab under the number board, like it ran into a pole or something.  Stress folds are definitely possible.  You should see the wrinkles on the side of a plane after a hard landing or two.

I'd try a heated screwdriver and work SLOW.  I've done that for bent armor models and had decent luck.
