Looking good, Lee. I like how the city is going in before the rails and if you need a static streetcar, the Bachmann PCC's are only about $25 and come in paint schemes close to Baltimore's.  Even cheaper if you scour the junk tables at the shows...

Lee that is looking real good, reminds me of Bob Smaus' new layout featuring
downtown LA with the way your structures and track are lining up and out.

Not terribly photogenic yet, but I started laying some cork roadbed tonight!  Progress!!

I also invented a "modular" Tortoise controlled switch.  Since I'm working on a solid 2" foam base that's basically sitting on a counter top, I can't just stick a Tortoise under the table.  So I've come up with this:

I took a bit of 1/8" balsa, same depth as cork, and mounted it directly to the top of the Tortoise, with the rod bent in a Z so it would come up on the side of the throw bar.  Then I carefully aligned the turnout so the points were centered, and glued it to the balsa.

I used a serrated knife to cut a square hole out of the foam, carefully locating it along the right of way, so the Tortoise simply nests in the foam.  I'll attach enough wire to be able to pull it out from underneath to some sort of controller on the fascia.

There's only three, maybe four turnouts toward the back I'll want to control remotely, the rest are at the front edge and will get micro slide switches.

So yeah, it's a mess, but it felt good to do a little site work!

That flyover reminds me of the pictures from the business trips the top brass of the WM would take out of Baltimore, I believe the picture is in Western Maryland in Color by Jeremy Plant.

Digging it.

That tortoise mount reminds me of the one I use for slide switches in foam.

Looking good, Lee!
Glad to see you work more of your magic again.

And speaking of mounting tortoises: http://blog.sfgate.com/thebigevent/2015/01/23/how-marine-world-tortoise-sex-made-it-into-jurassic-park/

How about a link on that slide switch mount, there Ed.  I've got a few of them between me and actually putting some track down...

You don't need to overly complicate it, Lee.  Just cut a hole in the cork roadbed for a snug fit, voila!

I usually leave them for a while to make sure they're working okay and eventually come back with some CA in the screw holes before ballasting.  Solid!
