They got a heck of a deal on the land...I wish the city would sell me some at 10% of its value.  The current Canton scheme would be much easier to model.

Stupid Sunpapers.  Wants me to pay to read an article that's weeks old...

I like the idea of doing a Canton loco, but given my presumed time frame it wouldn't be in the dazzlingly attractive Maryland flag scheme. 

I always liked the old yellow/gray scheme worn back when it was a privately held entity.




Not sure what model the switcher is, but there's a few on the market now that I'm sure I could conjure up.  The roman script is pretty easy to find, too.

If not, the Lifelike SW9/1200 is a fairly close match, and those things are MONSTERS at hauling (on my circa 2003 door layout, a single SW9/1200 hauled 10-12 cars up a 2.5% grade  around 9.75" curves at an above scale speed.

I got some nice under-cabinet style accent lights from my mom's house.  Dad had purchased them quite a while ago to light up his lead soldier display cabinets (he passed in 2005, these were still new in the box).  They aren't terribly bright, but then, neither am I.  This weekend I'll be tinkering with some sky blue backdrops and the lighting to see what I think.  Hopefully I'll have something to post on Weekend Update this week!

Progress!

Put a little work into the Canton, Highlandtown and Fells Point today.



First I did a little "Blue Sky" thinking... lined the book case with some blue poster board...  You can also see the new undercabinet lights I put in to brighten the dioramas a bit.



Tidied up the front edge with some styrene strips gleaned from an old set of vertical blinds...



And applied a coat of paint to make it look less like a giant chunk of blue foam in the office.  I also drilled the required hole in the vertical member in the middle so the railroad could poke through.

With these little advances, the next step will be to install some of the rear-ward track infrastructure.

Glad to see some progress, Lee.  I really like how your layout is laid out with city blocks rather than haphazardly placed buildings and poorly designed streets.  Definitely has a Baltimore feeling to it, but I hope someone doesn't get shot.  Kudos!
