Just to clarify, exactly what Atlas chassis is recommended for Piperguy's AS616 conversion?

Also, what trucks are supposed to be used with Jamesn320's Commonwealth truck frames?

I used a Atlas RS-3 , and I think the trucks are for a Atlas C-628/630.

I can't help but to wonder if a Kato RSC2 could be used to model an AS416???

Yes, my side frames for the DT6-6-2000 are for atlas C-628/630 trucks.

Hi
I have an Atlas/Kato RS-1 that I put the older style Atlas RSD-12 trucks on.  I then added Randy's superb sideframes to the RSD trucks.  Although the sideframes are meant for the C-628/630 trucks,  they are still close for the older truck.  The result is a fine running loco with close to correct wheelbase.
Cheers

If you guys have any pics of your finished models with my shells that you be willing to share, it would be great to have them for the MD Shops Facebook page!

Hi Wazzou
I'd better take some pics then.  I'll get something later today, after I finish work.  I like the thought of the RS-1 chassis for the Baldwin road switchers, as they are a little longer than RS-2/3. With the original trucks, they are ideal for an AS-16, and with the RSD truck, a close match for the AS-616.

I haven't bought a shell yet.  Not sure that present 3D printing is quite there yet, certainly not as good as Mark Gasson's printer.  Also, I have way too many half finished Alco's on my workbench.

Cheers

Hi
It's Sunday, so I'll start work later.  Here's a set of photos showing the Atlas/Kato RS-1, which is itself being modified to resemble some of the export Alco's or an MRS-1.  The next image shows the RS-1 chassis with one of each truck,  the last shows it reassembled.  Sorry photos aren't great.  Hope this helps.  Eventually I will build a Rayonier AS-616 with all the logging details.  But Alco's come first.

Cheers

So I guess my next question is will the Commonwealth truck conversion that Jamesn320 made fit the RSD truck? If not, can they be modified to do so?

My reason for asking is that I went on a search for the C628/630 trucks and found none available, however when looking the other day I found several pairs of new RSD trucks available.

I see the Atlas parts store is out of trucks.  There is a new run of C-628/630's due in late this year. Hopefully the parts store will be restocked at that time.
