I had very slow response times yesterday and this morning, but now it appears back to normal.

Hmm... with Kiz, nothing
is normal...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

Performance was in the crapper again this afternoon around 3:30. Loooong load times and 504 timeouts--so bad I couldn't even post. Better now, but it seems like it's become chronic.

I got on around 10 minutes ago (2:15pm EDT, Aug 13) and the performance is really slow.  No 500 errors but it takes long time for the server to respond to any action.

Update: it is now 2:28PM and things are getting better.

I'm going to be making a switch Thursday or Friday of this week.  I've been talking to a company that specializes in forum hosting (thanks to LashedUp and VWVortex.com) and I like what I see.

Then, I'll get back into everybody's good graces by having some prizes in the month of September to celebrate 10 years of Railwire!

Ads imbedded in the middle of an article are bad enough, but this article wants me to answer a "survey question" to continue reading.   :RUEffinKiddingMe:

I think stuff like that is why the internet is collapsing.

I think stuff like that is why the internet is collapsing.

With 10s of millions of attention-seeking (with look at what I'm doing now mentality) users addicted to posting dozens of updates to Facebook and Twitter daily,  I think the Internet is quite safe from a collapse.   :D

Close. When going to big-name commercial sites (news sites, mostly), I am astounded by the sometimes dozens of different domains the browser is calling-up to paint a single page. Considering that a lot of professional content relies on external APIs (googleapis.com, for example), there is layer upon layer (upon layer!) of unique server calls for content that was once "simple". It's the internet variant of Wirth's Law.

There are over 1000 images on this server. Not changing anytime soon.

Yes in some ways my old AOL dial up was faster than stuff today.
