I really like this idea, too. It would travel very well and you could have some windows and some backdrops for forced viewing angles and great photography.

The only thing I have against that idea is that the layout is designed to be viewed from all possible angles, and completely unobstructed.

If I build a crate for it, it'll be purely for shipping purposes.

At this point, odds are that I won't have time to build a crate for the layout before taking it with me to Altoona.
It'll probably have to make the journey in the double-walled cardboard box that I brought it home from Danville in.

Just ordered up two more Märklin "Talbot" hoppers. Which, by the way, have opening hopper doors!  :o

Working on getting at least one of the open wagons fitted with the one chassis that I just prepped the other day.
I'm hoping to have at least three wagons in running order for Bedford/Altoona.

My further modified open wagon has been fitted onto a Märklin chassis.
So now I have two wagons on Märklin chassis. This new open wagon will get fitted with 3-link couplings later on.
Also, both wagons have been given a shot of dullcote.

The other two Märklin "Talbot" hoppers I ordered have arrived. I've already taken the hopper bodies off and begun to remove the couplers, coupler boxes, and other excess bits.

Things are starting to get a bit crowded on the layout...

The open wagon directly behind the engine is one of two wagons that I received already assembled with the Peco side frames and already painted. The other three wagons are the ones that I have built, and have put onto Märklin short-wheelbase chassis.

The layout is packed and on the move. If you're going to Altoona this weekend, be sure to keep an eye out for it.

I got to see this today. It is an amazing little layout!

Hope to see some photos posted of Killashandra and the Nn3 trains running at N-Scale Weekend Altoona, PA 2016. Cody are you going to be at Danville, VA this year? If yes then make sure you pack the layout. I've got some ideas on adding additional scenic elements to help break up some of the large static grass areas and can also bring along supplies like last year.

If I can get the time off that Friday, I'll be down there. But I might be taking a trip to Eastern Europe in November so I might have to forgo any time off between now and then.

If I do indeed go to Danville, I'll probably bring the layout with me.

Did some fiddling around in the studio this evening. Back in August a gentleman from somewhere in Scandinavia replied to a Facebook post I had made in a narrow-gauge group about the rolling stock for the layout. His reply was a photo of an Nn3 engine he had built, also using the Märklin 0-6-0 chassis, but his had something special... Working valve-gear!

From further replies, I learned that he was able to combine the cylinders and valve gear parts from a Minitrix "Glaskasten" with a Märklin 0-6-0 chassis.
And to make a long story short, a few weeks later and a tiny package arrives in the mail containing enough Glaskasten valve-gear parts for me to do one 0-6-0 chassis. The parts got filed away into the abyss as other projects, and my fiancée, consumed all my spare time. Now that I have gotten a few of those other projects out of the way, I'm able to begin the surgery. The plan is to use another 0-6-0 chassis from my stash so that the one currently under the Peco body stays intact in case this all goes horribly wrong. I've got the parts out and so far I have done nothing more than think about how to go about beginning this procedure... But, I shall go through with this. The prospect of having working valve-gear on my locomotive greatly outweighs my trepidation of ruining A perfectly good 0-6-0 chassis.

Nice!  So, will you start a separate thread on that project?

I probably will, provided I remember to take photos as I go along.

Scored this on eBay a few weeks ago:

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

So eventually the layout will be seeing mixed-traffic trains instead of just goods.
I'm still debating whether to just build it using CA glue, or run the risk of completely ruining a rare Kit by trying to solder it. No matter what, this kit is still very rare. This is the only one I've ever seen for sale second-hand, as well as the only Toma Nn3 kit that I've seen for sale second-hand. Plus, Toma doesn't make any of their Nn3 kits anymore. So, needless to say this shall be quite the process to get this thing built, let alone painted...

If it is that rare, you better not screw it up!  Maybe you should just leave it unassembled?     ;)
