So what was the verdict? Were you able to revive the dead Marklin 0-6-0?

Not yet. The engine is in my possession, though. I got caught up in a couple projects over the weekend, including an impromptue car show. The engine will be studied in greater detail as time allows.

Cody, you're gonna hate this, but... I think you need to comb the grass on the hillside.

In that one photo, it looks like it's sticking out perpendicular to the surface, which makes sense, except that grass grows straight up.

For increased realism, you might want to try "brushing it", like hair to see if you can get it more vertical.

Where would you like me to part it?

I guess I'll see what I can do. It's kinda tough, given the angle of the slope, to get it to reach for the sky.
Although, I have a few ideas of what I'd like to do there in terms of more scenery and such, so it might be a moot point.

Josh Surkosky

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Still up in the air about what to do to make the current Märklin 0-6-0 become something more evocative of a narrow gauge locomotive or anything not German Z-scale. The wood bodied steam-tram idea is null since the proportions would have looked off. But some form of steam-tram is still preferable over anything else since it should be easier than trying to make a full-on steam locomotive. Plus, I don't want to go about hacking apart the mechanism. Most I've done it removed the couplers and buffers and filed the bufferbeams smooth.

In a perfect world, I'd have just bit the bullet and bought a Searails PowerMax chassis, but I can neither afford one nor purchase one since the deadline for the production run has come and gone.

I've trawled google for inspiration as well as posed a question over on NGRM-Online (and got back two possibilities, both not feasible for me to do)

This is the only thing that is close to being possible for me to attempt:

Do you have drawings for that loco?

I know nothing about it in regard to prototype, but it seems simple enough to make a model of.

Actually... Yes.
I have drawings for an H0e version of it that someone on NGRM-Online provided the link to:

You should be able to get a Powermax. As for costs it is cheaper than a 1 month iPhone bill!  Just sayin'

I'm tempted to get their newer wheels to fix my wobbly chassis, but the wheels are $30. Now if they would take an even trade for my wheels...

I missed the deadline for the current production run. Plus, can't afford it.
Now if someone wanted to buy a Western Railcraft interurban kit with a rare brass GHB interurban motorized chassis included, then maybe I could.

And, my phone is on the family's plan. My car insurance on the other hand... :scared:

I bet with a little work you could do it as an etched brass kit - heck it might fit one sheet.

I don't know if I would go that far for something that is a German prototype.
From what I've seen etching is expensive, so if I'm going do to any etching it is gonna be a full A4-sized sheet with everything and anything I need and can get to fit onto the one sheet.

The plan is to probe the internet to see if anyone has artwork for the typical Irish cattle wagons that I can re-scale to 2mm scale. I also need to figure out a couple coaches.

I supposedly ordered a PowerMax chassis.
Although, it says "Advanced Paid Registration" or something to that effect.

Not yet sure what I'm going to do with it...

What exactly does that mean, @VonRyan ? The wording confuses me a little, but then again I have been up for a while now.

Also, the 0-6-0 i have been tasked with servicing does indeed work (when power is applied directly to the motor contacts). However, it only works intermittently when power is transmitted through the wheels, so I assume part of the problem resides within the contact system, which will be examined this weekend.
