They're right-side-up on my phone, and they were right side up in the little attachment area, so the forum must just like to flip things around unnecessarily.

Yes it does.  Wish our computer techie overlords would just solve the problem.

Then this rotation probably happens during the automatic resizing (probably based on the metadata stored inside the JPG).  If that is the case you guys should bring this up in the Admin forum.

When the IPhone takes pictures it stores the orientation in the metadata.  Any program that can read the metadata will show the proper orientation.  The forum software either can't read the metadata or it's possibly getting stripped when it gets processed for resizing or otherwise.

Regardless, you're taking upside down pictures, which you can correct yourself.

There is something in the phones software that displays them right side up while viewing on the phone. Like if you have the lens to right instead of the left, the phone straightens that out for you. Once you put that photo in a real computer it shows it how it really is. My android does the same thing if I hold the phone upside down to take a pic.

So, what you're saying is that it boils down to a left handed verses right handed person shooting landscape formatted pics on the phones.  If a person is right handed, more than likely they are going to compose the shot with the lens on top left and trigger the exposure with their right hand finger/thumb but a left handed person will have the lens on bottom right and trigger the exposure with their left hand.

That makes sense.

It's probably a leading contributor to the shorter lives of left handed people as well.

So to test the theory (and complete the thread jack  :ashat: ), I took this non rail photo with my iPhone using the volume buttons on the bottom as Chris's article suggests:

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

It shows in a correct orientation on my phone before uploading, and after uploading on the big monitor as well.

So, keep your volume buttons on the bottom of the iPhone as you shoot.  Learned something new today.

I'll get them uploaded to Google either when I get home from class tonight, or sometime tomorrow.

Cody, thats well done.  Write up something on the layout, what you learned building it and send it N Scale Railroading.

Golly gee, I wouldn't think that something so esoteric as Irish Nn3 would make a good article. Especially since it's such a tiny layout.
I wouldn't even know where to begin writing...

Pics look much better now  :D

I like how everything is progressing. each little area is like it's own scene. The long shot with both bridges is my fav.

this is one reason to do an article - how to achieve this in a small space.

Or handlaying Nn3 track in a small space.

Or why this prototype - which is unusual in the US - in a small space . . . .

Well, once the riverbed and dirt road is done, I'll start taking some good photos and put an article together for submission.
