Thanks , that's the SD-60 OEM tank that has been modified a touch so it matches the crappy work that I did on the shells . Blends in good eh ! I just got done trimming up the chassis to shell fasteners ( snips of credit card plastic ) , and other things that ensure that marriage seat properly . As you can see there is plenty of spots I haven't screwed the pooch on yet , time will solve that .

Never did un-saddle my butt , just took a break from posting photos .  :oops:Effect of shame with the FEF-1 which is still on my bench as well as loads of circus wagons and cars un-painted . At this rate I will never be a listless old fart .

Richie, I wish I could lay my hands on it, but in a recent mega-purchase of back issues I remember an article on doing a similar conversion (HO) using two BL2s and three-axle trucks.  The output looked mighty convincing and the slope of the long hoods made it pretty cool looking too.

Someone I know did precisely what you are proposing, and made quite an interesting engine out of it. He powered his with the mechanism from an Atlas SD60M, though, so that he could have easy DCC. I will most likely see him sometime this week, so I will ask him about how he made his, and I will get back to you.

Thanks , that SD-60 idea was better than what I was planning .

Here is that BL-2 shell bash if joined at the door center .

Got to do one of these with EMD SD-9 trucks . This reminds me of a Whitcome on steroids . Nice logical design .

I PM'd you his email address per his request. He was curious as to how you would be going-about completing yours, and would be glad to offer assistance if you had any questions. I remember him telling me that mounting the couplers was a challenge.

The BL2 bash looks pretty darn good!  It has a sort of GG1 flavor.  How about bashing the 2 short hoods together (riding on a single DDA40X truck)  to get one of those 0 scale "egg trains".  I've seen 2 observation car ends spliced that way on 0 scale.  :D

After removing the H12-44 pilasters the working SD-60 chassis fits like a glove , with just an ideal clearance , widthwise

This looks great, and I just have such a thing for fantasy locos. I think I  might keep  my eye out for a chassis and some shells, and make one myself.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.
