8 Bridges for the Boundary

Hi everyone…

The installation of a model of Barr Creek bridge marks the completion of the last major bridge on the Columbia & Western, my rendition of the CPR’s Boundary subdivision.  The 8 bridges have taken a little under 2 years of time to complete and their completion marks a major milestone for me personally. In that time I have learned many new techniques, including practicing a lot of patience, and I have come to thoroughly appreciate the engineering and construction creativity and effort that went into these prototype bridges erected 100+ years ago in the mountains and valleys of South Eastern British Columbia. 

To this end I have posted a Youtube video on the prototypes and models.  Warning: *don’t* watch this video unless you love model railroad bridges!


I hope those of you who do take the time to view the video enjoy it.  And I would like to thank everyone here at TRW for all the encouragement over the last two years to get these things done!

Looks like the weekend update is going to be a lot less interesting from now on. If you start to miss building them I'm sure you could start a custom bridge modeling service.

Finally got a chance to watch this Mark.  Excellent documentation of an epic project.  I especially liked the shots looking up canyon at the McCormack, Fire, and Barr Creek bridges.  Congratulations on this milestone!

Mark, on your pin connected truss, I'm interested in a few measurements. For example, what size of I-beam did you use to support the track on top? Are there 5 of them across the top?
