Those Rubber Rocks look fantastic Chris.  Is that the "Limestone Bluff"?

Noah,

It is Shale 18 32x7" Here it is when I bought it:

I've used parts of it for 3 layouts now.

This is also part of it:

And I still have a bunch left.

Got the roof done. Used Monroe Models 3D shingle sheets so it went fast  :)

Can anyone make me up a graphic for the station sign?  Like this.

So a while back in this thread DKS made signs for my Republic Steel building (Walthers Vulcan MFG). This photo was taken about 1.5 miles away from me:

In the background:

"REPUBLIC STEEL  PRESSED STEEL DIVISION"  This building is right off the Erie main and used to be the home of Niles Car Co. that made trolleys called electric pullmans. Later they made trucks and then Republic used it. So I had to make a sign to match:

It's nice out, I'm going to cut the lawn for the first time this year

Sign letters look good!
I'm assuming that the letters are all individually laser cut & applied?
(The U looks slightly lower than the rest)
(But that could be me, not U)

I'm guessing that upper floor door is the one fired employees are shown out?

The letters are from Slaters finescale railway components and I believe are 5mm tall. I found them on e-bay.

I just built the stair case last night   You know how it is when you build a kit and leave a few details off. Then long after you have to hunt all over to find that one plastic sprue with only one part left on it.  :scared:

Plastruct offers something similar.  Shapeways is a great way to do custom signs too.  I'm thinking about trying a Canada Dry sign for a bottling plant I started, when I am able to take my modeling stuff out of storage again.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Chris
would you write more about what kind of sign
you want
are you looking for a 3D sign with words on it
are you looking for a printed graphic file with the word HUBBARD that you can print on whatever you want to
are you looking for a printed paper or cardstock sign with HUBBBARD in black on a white background already printed (laser not available)
or something else???
thanks
Gary

Where is Old Mother, Chris?

Looking fantastic as always.

I know how ya feel in the sprue hunt. Heck, it could become it's own video channel on Youtube. This week, we travel to Hubbard, NJ, where Chris brings in the fat bearded gang to chase down the mysterious and ferocious staircase sprue monster. Like Mountain Monsters on some random  cable channel I found.

Not to be mean or anything, but is there any hint of any kind of watercourse through that rock cut? Or will one be added?
As to the Republic Steel letters, is it the angle of the original photo that makes the letters seem much closer together on the prototype than on your model?

No water. See there is a hill and you want to build a railroad through it. You dig and blast your way till the route is level.

Look here:

No water here:

About the sign. I didn't model the exact building so why do I need to model the exact sign? Wouldn't a short sign look odd on a long building?  It's called inspiration and theme music. When I first saw that photo about 15 years ago I knew I wanted a sign like that. The real building is on the corner Erie street and Mahoning street, right along the Erie main and has a long history (there was even a transfer table inside it)

And because I wanted to.

Another random update. Getting this dummy NYC line cinder fill fleshed out.

And I painted this piece of road.
