Also I just gotta share since I was Googling and found new images of the Erie in Warren, OH  :)

Don't you just love it when a search leads to amazing photos like these! Very nice.
Thanks for sharing. The freight house and parking lot look great. Really a show piece on a very nice layout.

Best wishes, Dave

This 1950 photo shows the old track arrangement in Warren. Red is Erie, Blue is B&O. First yellow building on the left is the REA building, then PAX station, and the freight house.

Then the tracks were moved. They went right through the REA building so it and the PAX were torn down. The PAX station was moved to the Freight house and a few of the roll up doors were filled in.

You can read about the study to widen the road here:

For other options to the height of brick driveways as to paved streets, loading doors, etc, if the lot height was too low then it had a slight grade up to the building to raise that part of the pavement high enough for easy truck loading. Sometimes it was a ramp, if the track and lot were the same height, to get the truck bed up to the level that the freight cars unloaded at. It wasn't much of a grade and not very long.
Not saying Chris's way is wrong; not saying it doesn't look right; just talking about different ways to do freight house parking lots.
And I wasn't being "mean" about the stairway ... I did see it was missing from the previous set of photos and wondered why. Obviously adjusting the stairway is not a prime task right now as major parts of the layout need to be done first. But for a "what if" in the future, the stairs could be sliced off, narrowed, and turned 90 degrees to the "porch" (which needn't be changed at all), and a concrete slab added at the bottom of the stairs to connect to the sidewalk. The railings would have to be removed and re-adjusted, with the option of having the other railing along the building  side of the stairs or not. The new "face" of the stair porch would be a possible place for a  sign like "All drivers report to office first" or whatnot. I don't know what the stairs are made of so this might not be possible. But it's just an option suggestion that might be used by any modeler who thinks it useful for his buildings. NOT a slam.

Why did the Erie run gauntlet track for 2 blocks in the road through a city? They found room for double track main everywhere else.

I guess we'll never know the why. I think waaaaaay back it was a fancy thing. Warren was happy to get a railroad and let them do whatever they wanted. There was another one on the Erie right into PA in Sharon that was about 2 blocks long and over a bridge. These are the only 2 I know of on the Erie. In Warren there was a mandatory stop and wait for signal at each end.

Both of them were on a part of the Erie that used to be the Cleveland & Mahoning Railroad.

Oh yeah I got some more ballast and base scenery down.

Also I "installed" some clouds and glued all the backdrop photos up. I'm DONE with the sky.  :scared:

Chris, your work is phenomenal. Terrific from inspiration, idea maturation, and implementation.

Hi Chris, i know you are done with the backdrop   ,  but is there a way to hide that vertical corner, maybe with a painted smoke plume out of one of the distant building images? Maybe it's just the sheen of the backdrop...

Beautiful work.  I hadn't even noticed that the clouds and photos were added, which in my mind is the sign of an effective backdrop.  I personally don't want to notice the backdrop, I think it should just blend seamlessly and the minds eye should just forget it's there.  Thanks for sharing!

It's too bad you couldn't have done a slight curve in the corner of the backdrop to hide the edge.
