Ah, the venerable LGB gon. Check out them classic LGB couplers!

It's a bit out of proportion, especially with respect to the end beams, but it's a much higher quality than the Bachmann Big Hauler cars.

I miss my days of playing with LGB at the old hobby shop.  So many great pieces of rolling stock.  Never forget when the Uintah unit came in, and we let it sit on the test track the entire day letting it chuff away.

Watching this little project closely.  My wife looked at me on Sunday while we wandered through our new back yard and said, "This would be a good spot for a garden railroad."  I almost crapped my pants.

:RUEffinKiddingMe: So pissed at the post office right now.

So here's a late breaking story...BLW lets me know the IM F-7's I've been patiently waiting for have come in and shipped out.  I check USPS today, says out for delivery...great...attempted delivery at 11:00 am, no party to obtain signature, blah blah. Funny, I was sitting in the living room then so when I go out I stop by the post office and show the lady what's on my phone. She checks ID, goes back and comes out with the box and tells me "sometimes they get in the wrong bin and we gotta do something to show a status if it doesn't get out on the truck"...
At least I have these pretty F Units for the extra effort.

My uncle works for Piko America, let me know if you're interested in any of their stuff (I know their track is some of the best in the biz) and I'll see what I can work out!

Hey James, thanks!

I'll tell you what I am interested in from Piko...  They make a D&RGW short caboose and a D&RGW water tank.  Both interest me!

Anyway, I just did a shakedown run on the Rio Grande Southern. Test fitting the track. It's a mix of used LGB and USA Trains that Russ sent. I picked up four new extra 8' LGB curve pieces to complete a loop. There's still enough track to run a mine spur toward the compost box.

25 still needs to be weathered.  But since the chassis transplant she runs like a dream.

Next project is ScotchBrite-cleaning all the used track and hitting it with Rust-Oleum reddish-brown primer.  I'm doing a test piece right now.  Looks a tad reddish, but when it dries it should be OK.

Before and after (or after and before). The track on the right is oxidized and dirty. On the left is a piece that's been cleaned, polished, and painted with Rust-Oleum primer. It may be a bit light in color, but trackage out here in the West tends to be lighter colored than back east.

This will also help tie together all the various shades of brass and the combination of black and brown ties.

I dunno...  Starting to think that track looks a bit too red.  Maybe something in a darker brown might look better.

I think a brown would have been a good base, something like raw umber or rail brown.

I need something I can get reliably and in large quantities.  I'm thinking the earth brown Rust-Oleum Camouflage paint might work:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-12-oz-Earth-Brown-Camouflage-Spray-Paint-6-Pack-1918830/202058626

But I have noticed very few G scalers paint their track.  Am I being stupid by trying it?
