While doing annual inventory, I came across one of my favorite steam locomotive kitbashes, so I thought I'd share it with ya. Base model is the Bachmann "low-drivered" 4-6-0.

The great benefit of having reorganized my collection is that I can bring out old power that I haven't had the chance to enjoy in a while. Here's a trio of F3's with an empty reefer train trundling down the street.

Newest addition to the roster is a 60 year old Balboa HO scale ATSF 9000 class 0-6-0 . It actually runs surprisingly well with it's MASSIVE open-frame, ozone spewing motor.

The ATSF 0-6-0's boiler will have spent almost a week in a mason jar of simple green, stripping the horrible, original paint job off of it. Anybody care for some "pickled goat"?  :D

The tender has already been stripped and came clean after two separate 12 hour dunks.

Lots of updates to show, but I'll whet your appetite with this:





A bunch of scratchbuilt buildings. The vegetable wholesalers are being scratchbuilt along with the brand new "googie" style gas station, based off of GULF plans.

Finished painting the completed canopy. Now to hunt down some mid-60's gas pumps. It'll also receive a layer of weathering in due time.

My Dad still has his Varney Docksider running.  The smell conjures up great memories of running it under the Christmas tree every year when I was younger. 

The actual casting of it, however, is starting to degrade, and crack.  Not sure if there's anything we can do to restore it.
