Carl,

Very, very NICE! The extra effort will certainly pay off once the project is near completion....  :D

Quick update. I did the pilot handrails 3 times before being satisfied. Very small stuff such as Max's pipe hangers. Oh well, I think #3809 will look good once painted, decaled, and weathered. Taking it slow.

Thanks for looking.

The front handrails look really good.  It was worth doing them 3 times to get them right!   Railings and pipes with
all those bends can be very frustrating, but when you get them straight, they look amazing.  Nice work!

Request:  Look on that camera of yours for some sort of "macro" or "close-up" setting.  You should be able to get
these close shots, even on a point-and-shoot, without it losing focus.

Max,

Thanks for the comments. As far as the camera goes it is a Sony Cyber-shot 10.1mp with the macro on. Not very good. These two new pics were made with my wife's Sony Cyber-shot but a much newer one with macro on. A world of difference.

I still have some bracing to add to the pilot rails as well as headlight and also some more "cleanup" of solder joints. They are pretty small now but I know paint wil highlight them even more.

I got mine in the mail, now I have to come up with an excuse for not working on it (uh, I'm still working on my MT class locomotive...yea, that's it).

Superturbine, someone commented that there should have been a trailing truck casting. If that is so, I didn't get one of those.

No I used the stock trailing truck.  I need to make a pilot truck casting, but the weather has slowed me down.  When I have the casting done I will send it out to all.

Engineer's side of boiler is done, I think, and pilot is closer. Need to dress the solder joints and glue joints, add headlight and number board under light. Next, on to fireman's side.....

The handrail that is on the inside of the steps has been moved to outside of steps where it belongs. I need to make up a Hancock Turbo Feedwater Heater that is located under the fireman's cab windows. Just one more "Make your own" item.

Ted asked me to post the pictures for him...  Good job Ted!

Ted- I had to wait for my Gold medal parts to get started, then realized I
needed .008 brass wire, lo and behold, I had some, slow progress, but a
lot on at the moment.

Looking good Ted. I have slowed on mine as the very small pieces require more concentration on my part and that is tiring (lol).

Some update pics. I spent the day shaving mechanism and weight so boiler would fit. Needs more adjusting along with straightening piping on fireman's side. The handrails on the pilot porch and front of boiler were specially challenging for me. I had some special wire bending pliers but I can't find them now. You know, memory is the second thing we loose in life. Any rate, here is where I stand this evening..............

For the very first time I have attempted something like this I think I am going to be pleased with result.

Going great Carl, Jason seems to have a knack for getting them built overnight.

Jason pointed out to me that the front end throttle should go through the front sand box pipe cover, so I have changed that.

Unfortunately, time is a problem, I have so much on, I am thinking of retiring from being retired so I can get more done.

Ha!  Not hear lately, I guess I am taking a little break, but I really need to get going again.

Looking good Carl, I will be excited to see it come to completion!!
