Slug research help

I'm looking at creating a homemade slug from a VO1000 I have, to run with two C420HHs in transfer duty.  I like the look of slugs that retain their original body style rather than getting turned into low rider terds on trucks.  For instance, I like the C&NW blanked out RS units, but I model the 60s and that's too early to get rid of an RS2 or RS3 (although maybe a blanked out RS1...never seen one of those...).

I found that SCL had a V1000 with cab removed (#3000), but can't find photos of the "cab" end to get a sense as to how they did it.  I'm thinking of just getting a second VO1000 shell and extending the body line to the other end, but from what I can see of the SCL unit it looks like it literally had its cab (and equipment stand I assume) removed and that was it.  RF&P looks the same but with an ALCO S1 or 2 (#C), but I can't find photos of the "cab" end of it either.

Does anyone have any photos, know of where photos can be found, or have some sort of knowledge about these units that they will share?

I'm also thinking about a cabless re-motor of the VO, ala the RI or Katy, to 'explain' the cab-end hood extension.

Thanks,

Bryan

SCL apparently had 5 VO-1000 slugs. Check out towards the bottom of this page for pictures of all 5:

They also rebuilt Baldwins with EMD engines.

I think that was a pretty common practice to replace the Baldwin De La Vergne engine with power assemblies from EMD.  I know the Northern Pacific did this as well.

I'm familiar with the Frisco, RI, and C&NW repowers and they're all Alco-to-EMD .  But the road's concept is all Alco ala GB&W, and I don't know of any roads that repowered another manufacturer's loco with an Alco motor.  That's why the slug idea made sense - an odd diesel gone slug.

Maybe I should just eBay the Baldwin and do the RS1 idea instead.  RS1 were being traded in the mid-60s so slugging one's not a far off idea.

NP, and later BN, had 3 slugs built from two VO-660s and a VO-1000.  But pretty sure they chopped the hoods down when they were converted.

Wabash had their Train Masters (which included the former TM1 and TM2 demonstrators they bought) repowered with Alco 251s about six months before the N&W merger.

NKP had their four Baldwin AS16s repowered... two by EMD, two by Alco

Katy had several of their S12's repowered by EMD as well. In fact, one of them worked Dallas- Ft. Worth up into the 80's. I may try to scan a shot from Katy Diesels to the Gulf that has a photo of one in green and yellow near Tower 55.
