Haven't seen Kato F2 before, they must be new. Road names are:

F2A-F2B Atlantic Coast Line
F2A-F2A CB&Q
F2A-F2A Rock Island
F3A-F3A Chicaco & North Western

due in April 2014

Unusual release and I am surprised, but I like it.  ACL is pretty east if I am not mistaken.  I will buy the CB&Q units even though they should be paired with FT A/B units!

I believe they've released the F3s before in other schemes,

You were first by 18 seconds but I am surprised that neither thread had a link to the .pdf for these releases...
http://www.katousa.com/PDF/N-F2-2Packs-December13.pdf

While a number of other Kato Fs have been rerun this is a very rare run which hasn't been done in many years.  I know somewhere on one of the forums someone was asking about F2s so now that person (along with many others) will have a chance to get some.

"I will buy the CB&Q units even though they should be paired with FT A/B units!"

Which is also the case with the Rock Island and Atlantic Coast Line models.  A number of roads bought F2s and early F3s specifically for the purpose of splitting FT A-B-B-A sets into A-B-A sets, so that they could be a bit more versatile in their use.

It is worth noting that this is the run many folks had hoped for, with the F2A/B and F3A/B Phase I not being done in many, many years.  While the other Fs have been done these molds have not seen use for a very long time and I am glad that Kato is FINALLY rerunning these models!!!  I am sure that a number of modelers will be happy!!!

Kato's never done an F2.  :?

Interesting choice on the rear vent.  Not as-delivered, but a later modification.

That is interesting on the rock units, may have to grab them also!

More Northwestern love, I really wish Kato had announced an accurate 400, but those CNW F's are going to be hard to resist.

The ACL units are a definite surprise.
I’m not here to argue

Arn't we just considering an F2 and an F3 Ph1 the same carbody?

I'm really happy they're doing the CB&Q units so I can pair one with my Intermountain FT set.  But why-o-why are they selling them in pairs.

Prototypically speaking, they could look the same.

Based on the artwork, there looks to be differences between this shell and the Phase 1 shell.  And I think there are things on the Phase 1 that wouldn't be on an F2 (as-delivered).

I can't find a good pic of a Kate Phase 1 on-line.  If anyone could post one, that'd be great.

Same for RI.  I'll keep one for the FT set and be chopping one up with an F3 for a later version.
