Or for a half-price blowout sale (after few years of the 1st run hanging around the shops - ala Kato RDCs).

A doubt there will be many extras hanging around.  If Wig-Wag can only give a 10% discount, then there's not much money to be made on these.

Walthers has a pretty short discount on them for dealers and it may get shorter as Hornby is switching to be their own distribution network. We deal with them for Scalextric and Slot It 1/32 slots and Airfix models.

Well,
This kitbash stood the test of time for 25 years.

Unlike a kitbash where you make one, and before the paint is dry, someone announces a mass produced one.

Ooh, an L&N (ex-Oroville Dam) U25C.  Nice, Ron!  I have a feeling, though, that your model will soldier on for a while longer before someone announces a mass-produced model of that scheme.

It soldiers on, but not as a Phase I in Oro Dam livery.  It got bashed further into a Phase III and re-purposed as Big Blue in 1992.  The stretched RS1 frame/mechanism remains unchanged, and still retains its DC electrical configuration.
