Brainstorming: 2-4-4-2 log hogger.

I have been thinking of trying to build a 2-4-4-2 logging engine.   Not too sure that I am capable.   I would appreciate any thoughts and ideas from you talented folks here on the wire.   Thanks.

Are you looking to do an articulated, Mallet type like Rayonier had out west?

so there's stuff like this online that could be a parts source (though not a mechanism)

and Bachman, Lifelike and Rowa have all sold larger Mallet/articulated steamers you could start with.

Two Bachmann consolidations reduced to two drivers per mechanism.  Front engine attached by universal couplings from the rear engine worm.  Both drivers per mech are gear driven.  Main rods and eccentric rods would need to be shortened and valve gear moved backwards.   That's a thought off of the top of my head and without looking at the mech. :D

Ive been kicking this idea around for a long time....the appealing thing about the whole thing is the fact that then engines are short enough to potentially allow proper articulation rather than what we are accustom to. Although none of my ideas have worked put yet.

I'd much prefer a 2-6-6-2 of small driver diameter.  Anyone have one of those nifty Micro-Ace 0-6-6-0's they're hoarding?   :)

I do have a pair of Micro-Ace 0-6-6-0s ,   they are both 51s.    They run so sweet that I just can't bring myself to butcher one up.    A Minitrix 0-4-4-0 would probably be a good starting place,   but they are a bit pricey when you can find one.

Valve gear need to be so compact that I don't know of anything else that would make a good starting point.
