Need Athearn Truck Screws.

I hope I'm in the right forum.

I have some Athearn cars that need truck screws. The Athearn parts page that came with one of their cars show truck screw #99016, but I can't find it on the Athearn web page.

Does anyone know what kind of generic screws I could use? I need about 3 or 4 dozen (I'm assembling random Athearn car parts to form complete cars).

Any 2-56 x 1/4" screw will work to hold Athearn or any other brand trucks on cars. They can be had fairly cheap thru internet sources like McMaster-Carr - on the order of $3.00/100 vs $3.00/10 at a LHS. If you're lucky enough to have one near you you can order them on the internet then pick them up your self to save on shipping. Also those kinds of places have all kinds of hardware & tools that can be used for MRing. You might even check your local hardware store. My preference is Phillips vs slotted head screws because it's easier to keep the screwdriver tip in the screw.

Are 2-56 x 1/4" machine screws okay? McMaster-Carr listed other types of screws, but I have no idea which style is more appropriate for N scale.

If you want unlisted Athearn parts, it is best to contact them through their website's "contact" link, then select "parts". They'll advise you through email about part availability and price.  But I agree that it will most likely to be a lot cheaper to get screws from some industrial supplier.

If they have a low profile pan head that would be best.
