I got my shapeways HOn30 caboose and boxcar for my 2-8-0 conversion mocked up, on the N scale front, I am in the process of rebuilding a scratchbuilt Bay window caboose, to better fit a atlas standard cupola underframe.

Pictures later, seahawks are on.  8)

Nice scene-maker, Daryl. Pretty slick that you were able to get a model so closely resembling the prototype. A suggestion: access road and place to park a couple of cars. The access road would be perfectly good through the backside of one of the adjacent industries via a locked gate - seen it done countless times.

Hello all...
trying to finish another ATSF 70ft baggage/express from Roberto Martari's (M&R sides) EXCELLENT etched sides....
before painting the roof I added rain gutters from Evergreen strip; I wanted to take this one a little bit further...
BLMA drop grabs added to each bottom end, and, in lieu of anything out there that is accurate for the '3 post' ladder supports (my vernacular) seen on many hvywt cars (at least ATSF cars), I've had to replicate these using a combination of BLMA ladder supports...Roberto has included these unique grabs on the fret of his '3000' series chair cars, and the chair/smoker...I wanted to 'borrow' these from those frets but figured I'd try these. I believe that, once they're painted with the roof, they'll be a reasonable and acceptable 'stand in' for the shape of the prototypes.
Thanks for looking,
~Bruce

I bought a bag of Highball Products limestone ballast yesterday and finally started piddling with ballast on the Seaboard Central.  I hate ballasting.  This is about how much progress that I can make at one time, because I have very little patience for it.  OCD and ballasting don't mix.   :P

I also got what is quite possibly the last piece of Atlas Code 55 flextrack in stock at MBK's yesterday.  Thanks to John Hale, who discovered one piece of track that had a 4-5" section of damaged rail at one end in MBK's clearance section.  Since I only needed about 24" of track, it was perfect and only cost $0.99!  Win.  I used it to replace the ME bridge track I originally used on the cassette.  Unfortunately, I was having problems with the guardrails popping loose, so I replaced it.

Have a great week,

Yesterday I went to the center of the model railroading world- Minatur Wunderland in Hamburg.    I'm really not sure what I can say, other than it was incredible.  It was so big, so visual, so animated, so much fun!  Probably the best part is seeing people line up to get in and the place was packed.  They have mastered the art of making everyone interested in model railroads!  To top it off the trip involved a few hours on an ICE train blasting across the countryside, oh and some quality beer :D.

Simply incredible! :D :D :D

Lots of great work as always, but special overdue kudos to Mark Dance and his work posted the past month or so.  Fantastic scenery and progress!

Yeah, but it looks really good, Dave. Very natural in appearance, rather than that glued-on-a-slab-of-angled-cork mess that I get by trying to make it fast/easy/less of a PITA. You may not like the process, but you cannot fault the results. Nice.

We stopped by Caboose Hobbies on our way back through Denver yesterday.

An Atlas Trainman 50' Erie Lackawanna boxcar. To be true to prototype, I'll remove the roofwalk (and fill in the mounting holes), add an ACI panel and wheel inspection dot, and weather it. As soon as I have a workshop again...

The prototype pic from 1987 is here:

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2415172

I don't think I'll try to shave down half the ladders.

Also picked up this Bluford Shops Penn Central transfer cabin.  If you're playing along at home, you'll note an increasing presence of pure early 70s Penn Central equipment on the Juniata Division (as opposed to ex-PC Conrail patch jobs). Am I starting a third era for the layout? Maybe....  I think more than anything else I'm starting to feel too restricted by the sharply defined eras I've chosen (July 1956 and June 1980).  For example, I see using this cabin and my pure PC GP7 as equipment for my Lewistown Local, even in my Conrail era.

I've been working on landforming around the coal mine, also testing out some "trees", some sort of shrub or bush that was included in a box of lichen.  Deciding if I want some trees around, or put in some company housing here in the flat area.

Also cut out an area where the track curves between the rocks and a curve in a river that runs thru this area.

Ian,check these folks out on ebay. From time to time they have the chassis you want/need. http://stores.ebay.com/That-Train-Place?_trksid=p4340.l2563 I have bever had any problems with them.
I will try and give them a shout.

Hang in there. The PlazaJapan listings changes over time, and this chassis may reappear. You might also consider contacting them to see if they have any in stock not listed in their eBay store.

I'll shoot em an email.

Heres one of the units. There are the obvious stepping issues that I am going to work on. I need to remove the buffers and add a bunch more US details and weathering.

I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes... I'm in N... Also HO and 1:1
