I think I've been to your open house last year.  Is your layout in a garage and near lake Nokamixon.

Negative comments and constructive criticism are not the same thing.  I see mostly the latter in addition to the rather substantial number of accolades.

This is actually one of the most positive responses I've seen in a while.

No he is fine with it up on the Internet, just surprised with some of the comments.

I found it to be well executed as well .. the comments about the track nail heads are valid, as well as some of the others .. I don't think anyone means ill will here ..  every layout has flaws of some sort.  The track nails distract from an otherwise well executed scene . thats all ..

Lets pretend the nail heads are signal activators.  Problem solved.  How's that!

He who is the perfect layout builder step up and cast the first talus  :D

I enjoyed the ride very, very much. It looks like real scenery and not made up of colored foam and paint and parts. What impresses me the most by far is that you see the hill rising up on your left and at the same time there is a well executed water feature to your right with a significant drop off to that water. The farm houses looked incredible on film. If we weren't told it was N scale would anyone have guessed right away?

As for that little controversial Looxie camera, bravo! This ought to quiet the Looxie naysayers because the peripheral, as well as the head on shooting is brilliant. Focus is pretty darn good for a "test" run on a different layout. And, again, the layout proved to be an excellent choice to test on. Now I really want one. But then again, would I ever show my work that close up here???? Aye yai yai

I think you have to ask yourself this question when you consider sharing your efforts on a forum or YouTube: Do I just want a bunch of "attaboys" or am I seeking some real honest opinions about my work?

Personally, if and when I post something here for all of my fellow N-scalers to check out I expect you all to be brutally honest. Praise is great but sage advice could be greater--especially if it helps me do a better job.

If it was my layout, I would go in there and (carefully) yank out all of those offending track nails--what it this the sixties?

Once track is ballasted, nails become extraneous.

If "attaboys" are what you want, TRW isn't the place to be looking for them.  That's one of the reasons I like this place.  Compliments here mean something.

Simply put, we participate in the Railwire for the purpose of critiquing one another such as artists commonly do.  This involves both accolades and suggestions for improvement.

I for one know I have not even come close to tapping my potential as a model railroader.  Exposing my work here has already paid dividends; through constructive Railwire critique I've improved my trees, track, signalling, weathering, and almost everything else.

No other forum has given as much to me as a modeler as this place has.  Hopefully I've returned the favor.

As the others suggest, a steady chorus of attaboys gets to be like giving trophies to every child regardless of his/her performance.  It does nothing to inspire the continual improvement for which most of us strive, and in most cases instead inspires stagnation.

One has to be willing to accept constructive criticism for what it is, and to recognize it from negative commentary and trolling.  As I said before, they are not the same thing and their intentions couldn't be more different.  Again, the accolades I see here are pretty high praise from this community.  Enjoy it; it was well earned.

I just wanted to say I'm not upset about the criticism, just that we had noting to do with the video permission was given to someone else to video it. So we have no control over the editing part. The layout looks completely different in person. The time frame of the layout is 1992.

The movie is pretty well done and an accurate depiction of a typical modeler's basement.  The actors at the beginning look exactly like real model railroaders!
