Ed's a scenery guy, not a building and facilities guy.
We all have our limitations or strengths and as long as I've been here, this is the way it's been from what I have seen.

Well, the end of the year has freed up my schedule a bit more lately, so this morning I got a chance to do a bit more paving.

Looks good man, but if you've milked this cow dry...may be time to move along.  Changing focus after burnout is liberating!  I know you want GMR but have you considered instead doing MRP?  You put a *lot* of thought into planning this and the incorporation and re-purposing of Lee's yard is a unique bit that might garner MRP's interest.  That way you're also not tied into finishing something that's stressing you only to move and ditch it within months.

Just a thought.

It will warm the cockles of your heart to know that I just brought home two bags of unsanded grout to use for scenery. In two of the lightest beige shades, I'm going to see how they work for depicting soil around the current Colton project. I'll experiment off the layout first, of course!

Meanwhile, I can't imagine how you guys work so hard on a layout and then so easily (apparently) dismantle it for something else.   I'm not sure I could do that.  Certainly not without serious withdrawal.    Maybe if I live long enough to have the years in this that so many of you do I'll figure it out.

Moving is always a good excuse to start over, and yes it is hard to tear it down after spending some much time, effort, and money building it.

In my case I sold the layout to start over...but mine was small enough for that to make sense.

The person who bought the JD hopefully will take good care of it...but ultimately it doesn't matter.  We enter into this hobby for fun, and when something we've built is no longer as fun as what we could be doing next, it's healthy to consider changing it up...assuming it's financially feasible.  If you're in between jobs or say you just moved and short on cash, maybe starting over isn't as easy or as smart.

Ed's already wowed us in N scale doing mid-Atlantic winter.  I'd love to see him tackle something else!
