Off to the annaul Victoria Train Show this weekend, so this week's scant model time was spent preparing plastic cases in which to transport my rolling stock for display.

#1 with 40', 50' and 53' boxcars:

#2 with 52'-6" flatcars, trailer flats and gondolas, and 61' chip cars:

#3 with open hoppers, slab side covered hoppers, tank cars and cabooses:

and #4 with various work equipment:

Tim: while the Trading Post is a different thread, I'm happy to hear what you're offering for those sets  :D

Great Train Expo in Santa Clara this weekend, which means waking up early and hauling my a$$hat down south to set up all the modules we dumped down there today.
As we now have 5-6 very long modules (12'-16') in addition to the many 4'-6' modules (like my Shoofly in Sonoma module) so we need more curved modules, so Eric mass produced 10 and we've been finishing up laying track and scenicking them for the show so we can fold all the long modules into our space.

I took for and wanted to go for a Northern California wetland /slough scene:

The Magic Water is just curing up, so should be good to go tomorrow.
Many Asshats involved in the show (Nils, Railnerd/Dave F., etc.) and hopefully will have show photos and videos soon!

Happy weekend!

Got the roofs on the Rearden complex, and finished bashing the boiler house.

Also laid the trolley tracks (highlighted).

Last weekend my son Sam and I went to Roundhouse Park in downtown Toronto. The former CPR John Street roundhouse, now at the foot of the CN tower and Roger's Center (home of the Blue (cough) Jays) is home to a small but wonderful collection of equipment, fully restored turntable, the CPR Don Station, a interlocking tower that is a functional representation for demonstrations and  a 1/2 km long narrow gauge ride on railway.

The equipment incude a CN 4-8-4 Northern, CN GP 9, CPR S 13, CPR Baldwin swithcer, a vinegar car, TH&B caboose recently and beautifully restored and several other MOW pieces....

My workmate Dan Garcia is an important member of the team at the roundhouse and he was good enough to set us up with an "all access" pass for the roundhouse and, more importantly for me, the restoration shops...

We rode the mini railway !

That's a live steam Sweet Creek loco !

The CN Northern was on the turntable and the CN Geep was outside on a radial track...

Inside we got to see the Cape Race !

In rough but salvagable shape  "Cape Race" is one of the Solarium Sleeper Observation cars that ran on the Dominion for years and is a car I have modeled twice....

On the modeling front I have been working on the second car that I experimented with the "Lou window filing method".... Yet another CN (ok, bring it on) car, the Club Lounge car "Mount Royal Club".....

Our Rapido lightweight EM coach is a perfect candidate for conversion as the prototype car was rebuilt from an EM coach.... I've filed the windows and primed the shell. The interior was a chalenge but using the original coach interior and some scratchbuilding I have gotten a pretty close replica (except the seats on one side should be singles, I wasn't going to cut them out... I'll live with it !)

After I cut a kitchen door in the shell it will be ready to go to the paint shop.....

I've been working on a NS B32-8 lately. I built it from a B40-8 by removing the middle hood section and replacing it with the correct on from a B32-8HW. I rides on a b23-7 mech so I could get a somewhat correct wheel base. It's not perfect but I like it.

I've also been working on a CSX SD40-3. I designed and drew the cab in Inventor and had it printed via Shapeways. The material is kinda rough but it'll do. I see I have to redo those numbers.

Puddy, the Club car will make a great addition to your collection of cars and I appreciate you sharing what you have done so far.  I have not seen a pic of it or its siblings as of yet but I know that this one will indeed be a fine car.

Mike... Wow!!!  NS 3566 is definitely an eye popper!!!  Did you use the Atlas Amtrak Dash-8 shell as part of your model... would love to learn how you did it and see more shots of that beauty!!!

Thanks, but I'm Reese. I'm new to the site.

Yes I used the middle section of the Amtrak D8. The dynamic brake section and radiators are from a B40-8. I'll get some more pics up when I get the rear handrails on. I broke the atlas ones I got so I'll have to make new ones from GMM stanchions and wire.

Beautiful work!  And for any B-32-8 fans, you should be aware that NS donated #3563 to the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society in North East, PA and it is now on public display.

Last week I showed off a CR England tractor I painted and decaled.  Well, this week, I give you a second tractor, and this time a trailer I did myself.  The reefer trailer was purchased from flight2000 (TRW), so this time I just did a dry van.  Sorry about the pic, just a cell phone grab

Thanks Jerry; one of the many advantages of working at Rapido Trains Inc. other than working in your dream job  is working with rwo recognized Canadian passenger rail experts in the guise of Jason Shron and Dan Garcia (and I won't even comment in the depth and bredth of knowledge that Bill "Obi Wan" Schnider brings to the table)

I am learning so much about CN passenger ops (and teaching so much about the superior CPR passenger service) that every day is fun....., the Mount Royal Club was an orphan - she was the only club galley specifically built from an EM coach so she was the logical choice. I don't have ready made name decals for her so thst will be fun but......

Once again I'm off on a tangent and the layout progress suffers...Shapeways got back to me on the centipede blank..."Model should be hollow, too. " I sent them a solid "block" to find out if I was capable of creating a printable shape. Didn't think about "hollow". So now I'm obsessed with reworking the shape. I made it "hollow" but then I figured I may as well go for broke. I'm close, but have to iron out bugs that keep appearing in the STL file. It's tedious, but I'm learning a lot and having "fun"...

This what the critter looks like in the 3D program I used to create it...

This what the STL looks like...

I'm reworking the bugs out of the model in sections. Since the model is virtually full size (1:1) I'm not sure how much detail will survive when I rescale it 1:160. Tiny stuff like the details on these fuel fillers may disappear completely...

Did they, possibly, say something about how much $$$$$ (or, rather, €€€€€ or £££££) it was going to cost to produce as a solid? Since they price on volume of material, I can suppose that would get my attention.
