Very interesting trackwork there, Richie.

I realized with a bit of depression that I haven't made any significant progress on the layout since May.  In the meantime, I've been working unconscionable amounts of overtime.  I've been using the extra money to buy expensive toys, vis:

Anyone who wants to complain about the recently released Pacific Parlor Car, take a gander at the '70's goodness that is the Metro-screecher.  (And to be clear, those are Metroliner pantographs, not H10 pantographs.)  I haven't yet figured out how I'm going to get the Metroliner to suck the windows out of the MP54's when they pass...

Received a pair of livestock trailers from Shapeways today.  Only had time to clean and prime them:

You keep amazing me with your creations (and the FUD-printed models look pretty darn good too).  I eventually want to design and print some models too. I'm curious: how many hours does it take to design a model like that?

Aside from the usual construction stuff at the layout building, this week's big progress is the railcam. Internet service is alive, the camera is online and the web page works... but it's not where it has a view of trains yet. When I get it into final position I'll post the URL.

Not as productive a visit to the cottage as last year.  Still, I did make some progress on a few things:

Some small bridges and a culvert for the Troup Junction scene:

In total the scene will have 7 bridges so I just have one more to go - the short CPR mainline trestle - and all the abutments of course.

I also made some progress on the iconic Fife limestone loader.

(prototype photo by Matthew Hicks)

to replace this...

with this...well, once it is done

.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Tackled the last major structure for the JCIR: the block of boring storefronts. Looks simple from the front--

Ain't so simple from the back...

Bob:  They got the idea from the Swiss.  It was a test to see if they could eliminate engine changes in Harrisburg and run steam from Chicago to New York without running afoul of pollution laws.  Turns out it was cheaper to change engines than to drag the dead weight of a tender around.

peteski, the hours of design for 3d printing really depends on the complexity of the model, and the efficiency of the designer.  I have only been designing for about 8 months now using Sketchup, but I am much faster now than I was when I first started using the program.  I honestly don't know how many hours I have spent on any particular model.

Here's my finished livestock trailer:

From an N scaler, who also happens to have been in the cattle business all my life, that is awesome! Now the need for the N scale s*%t leaking out of some of those holes :)

The T1 tender was shown in Milwaukee at the NSE convention. Now a second tender drive is ready. This one is even more powerful than the first one. Now the work has to start on the loco. Here are some pictures of the tender mechanism.
