I wonder if it's happening again? Railwire is really horrible today. Slow to the point that it times out every fifth or si

Tom, for the love of Mike.

Tell me that you did not let Ed near the servers again!

[soapbox]

You know, I'm starting to get really concerned/weary about these centralized hosting farms. My primary client has their web server managed by Rackspace (one of the bigger ones), and they are taking us down this weekend - for the second time this year - for maintenance. You know, we pay these guys big $$$ for reliability and 100% uptime, yet here they go taking us down. Again. My wheezy little 8-year-old Mac mini running my personal domains has better uptime performance.

The advent of PCs was supposed to have freed us from the centralized mainframe gods and the DP priesthood that had us by the short hairs. Now we're back to that same friggin' model, with "the cloud" doing little more than obfuscating the greater loss of control and dependence on despotic central management.

I've said before that I am counting the days to retirement: 105.

This is the problem:  this crappy company bought everyone and service is suffering.

Tom's right. We had this issue with the LDSIG site and some of the NMRA's sites are going through the same maintenance things, getting moved from server to server. It really hasn't been a fun past 6 months or so for shared hosting with these guys (it's one reason I'm moving the LDSIG site soon),

I am in frequent contact with Host Gator people, but every time a tech "checks" things out, the speed is fine. :RUEffinKiddingMe:

But don't worry folks: I'm not giving up and if there is no resolution, I'll find another option*. :tommann:

Wow, some of those brands seem pretty damned questionable:
2slick.com
Dotster
HostYourSite.com

Hostek.com is where I'm probably moving the LDSIG.

I've never seen that! The site's been pretty slow - 20-30 seconds to load a page, sometimes - but it's never said I couldn't get there from here. Interesting!

Same here, whether I've been on my home or work computers or my cell phone.
