According to the Intermountain newsletter, they will be doing the 8,000 gallon tank cars in N scale again. One of my favorite freight cars.

I think I can pass off the Champion, Union Starch and UTLX cars into the 60s with some heavy weathering.

I wish they'd do a green Cities Service car just to remind me of the very first train car I bought, by Tyco.

I'm just glad to see that they are bringing back this car. It makes for some variety since there really aren't that many different tank cars available in N scale. The smaller size of this car next to the MT car looks really...appropriate. Now if only they would do some of the wine tank cars like they are doing in HO (only on their 10k gal tank). Hey, I model Nor Cal and I need wine tank cars...

I'm going to be running a bunch of tank cars into 1971.

Those wine cars made it East more often then you realize.  I could use 1 or 2.

FYI, your post encouraged me to research what a wine car (1950s) looked like.  In the course of doing this, I found that this company makes one in N (the thing with 6 domes; apparently its insulated):  http://www.cgnscale.com/products.html#6dtc

These are very nice models, glad to see them rereleased.
Anyone knows which of these schemes if any are protobased?

Glad to see the tooling repaired and these cars available again. I picked a few at the end of the last run and always wanted more. Might have to get all UTLX's as well as some of the oil companies.

Mark,

I already have a couple of the 6 domes from Shapeways and I've previously kitbashed one from an Atlas tank frame. Problem with them is decals. Champ used to make several wine tank decal sets...but never any in N (HO and O). I've actually scanned two sets of the HO decals and am in the process of cleaning them up so I can reprint them in N scale and use them. Of course, it would be much easier to buy them already printed and ready to run.

Add me to the list of "happy they are available again" - I need about a dozen, UTLX and oil companies in particular, for my 1957 era.

I find it fascinating that you can find photos of long "oil trains" during and shortly after WWII - tankers as far as the eye can see behind big steam, and even in the 50's there were a lot of tank cars in use for bulk deliveries to distributors.  And today, guess what: the oil trains are back! (Though I hope we don't see another disaster like in Canada again).
