Think of the itinerant worker in the US in the 1920s and 30s, and even into the 50s. Many workers from the South, for example, traveled north for factory jobs, worked for a while, then went back home. My wife, a sociologist, studied the Birmingham AL-Detroit migration route, which often took two days (and, sadly, still does on public transportation). The housing situation was cramped and miserable. My grandfather once told me he lost a third of his workforce after Thanksgiving, and gained it back after Easter. He did not offer great paying jobs--but they were jobs. From what I've seen over the past 30 years, China is experiencing those same fluctuations/migrations, but with 7X the population (of the 1950s US).

They have been a Model Railroad staple for decades and they (Atlas) are certainly in a financial struggle as well.
As much as it hurts I think we just need to be patient and hope they can pull through this disaster.

IMHO

Financial struggle? Doubtful when they are producing new products and kicking out new paint schemes on older stuff.

This is really just a kink in the works. Unforeseen circumstances (in China) and supply not equaling demand. Far from financial struggles for Atlas.

And he who stated that this is a hobby and to take a deep breath.  Last I looked this is a hobby forum, so if the OP wants to vent a little about his/our hobby, where's the harm?

There is no way you can not produce your main products for over a year and not feel the crunch.

I too am not an Atlas track user.  Actually, I use Railcraft 55 and 40 flex from my own hoard of it and I hunt for it since the details are much better than modern ME track.  I use ME 55 in areas that I can't see, or on modules that are "transition modules" which I don't run at home.

Last weekend, I arrived at the Hostlers Model Train Festival in Ogden with a box of post-1965 cars under my arm (no longer my time period) and managed to trade some for several bundles of Railcraft Code 55 with the original yellow Railcraft paper bands still around 'em!!  WOW!!...that made my weekend!

When Railcraft got out of the PCB turnout business (remember them?), I caught wind of it, and bought their entire stock of PCB tie material for a song.  After several hundred PCB turnouts made on my bench over the last 20 or so years, I still have over 2/3rds of it left.

Learning to build your own turnouts really sets you free.  I simply do not worry about China and N-scale track shortages, and I am also not restricted to using only #5.5, #6, #7 and #10 code 55 turnouts since I can make anything I need for my sectional layout at about an hour to an hour and a half per turnout.

Time for more of ya to learn that craft and quit yer bellyachin'...  :D

Yeah, but in that hour and a half MC Fujiwara would have built and scenicked four entire modules...  :P

True.  And his daughter would have built all the turnouts for them.  :D
