Finally, I got to make some sawdust (well, just a little)!  Added some shelf supports and the full extension drawer slides.  These will allow me to work in the back corner and on the other side of the PRR berm, up to the backdrop.  Will try to make the extension and hopefully add some foam tomorrow.

The top slides out from the corner at 45 degrees opening the back some 12"-15".  Releases on the slides allow me to remove the top entirely if need be...

Got the extension complete and ready for foam board.  My sons helped alot!

Luc, drilling, and Shane, vacuuming, for the support rib underneath the extension:

Alignment dowels for the layout side:

Alignment notch in the cleat for the rib on the dead end making a three point attachment:

Two proud boys and a stable extension!

The LIRR IS now has foam and a channel!  PRR Berm will go on next along the back edge up to the channel where the future elevated trusses will be.

Using a panel applicator tool for applying the glue.  Works nicely but is a pain to clean out, especially if solvent based glue is used.

Atlas dual girder bridge in its approximate location.  Glad I chose 3/4" thick foam for the base or the water would have been too close to the brige, I think.

Can't wait to lay some track!

Began construction on the traffic/rail shared thru girder bridge.  Bought some N scale 8"x 8" strips and cut it into 20' lengths.   Was struggling with the thought of gluing them down individually so I came up with a plan to use the underside of a piece of tape to "construct" the decking and then glue the Atlas tie deck upside down to that.  Remove the tape and wha-la!  Still have to stain the wood and paint the rest of the bridge.  Will likely use something similar to MC Fujiwara's famed Big Jug O stain as I love the way his ties turned out on his daughter's layout.

Chris333, I could not find a silver new beetle at either LHS today for a comparison shot...   :D

It looks like you removed the guard rails. Why?

Hi John,

Chris here from the PRR_n-scale group!  I saw "LIRR" and had to do a double take, because I live just a few miles from the LIRR - Louisville & Indiana Railroad.  It runs on (ironically enough) on the former PRR line from Louisville, KY to Columbus, IN.  CSX owns the trackage and leases the line to the LIRR.  CSX has been making frequent use of the line since closing the former Monon line from Bedford, IN through New Albany, IN to Louisville.

Nice bridge! And where did you get that panel applicator  - I don't remember seeing one of those at the local orange. Big box.

John, did you find a cheap source for the 2" foam?  If not, I have some 1' x 4' long pieces of 2" urethane foam.  It's kind of an off white color and covered with brown paper.  It doesn't carve very well, or is a strong as the blue stuff, but the price is right: free, if you're ever down this far south.
