Added my homemade pole lights to the icing platform today. Need to add rails and some ink wash to the deck. Used my battery holder switch to light them up with the icehouse. Loving how it looks so far.

The woodland scenics pole lights will go between the two tracks but point toward the platform to light the tops of the reefers for nighttime operations. Trying to decide if I should make them taller or not using a printed pier footing. I’m thinking yes for now.

Finished up two structures today, this is the office and garage for the aggregate company.

Next is the Old Crow Speed shop. I really enjoyed decorating and lighting this model on the interior. There will be more to come on the shop side such as a lift, engine hoist, and cars but the black leather couch and dude behind the counter are my fave!

Today I finished building a car for the Old Crow Speed Shop, and a hoist inspired by this rotary lift design:



First here is the car sitting on the unpainted hoist, a 1936 Ford from Lineside Models.



Here is the hoist construction using styrene:











Here is the floor of the shop. The structure is on magnets that attract to the metal inserts in the floor.





Add some oil, rust and grease stains on the floor, and under the hoist.

Been working on landscaping the west side if the channel. Did I say I hate ground forming? Ugh. So frustrating.

Anyway, the unsanded grout trick is all dried up. And I have final structure placements, except for the tower.

Started laying tape for proposed roadbeds. I like the flow so far. They represent four track gravel roads and some two track accesses in the aggregate and ROW. I will be using gravel and sand for each respectively.

The road at this grade crossing looks quite twisted to me. Can you make the crossing angle more oblique so that the road doesn't curve into the crossing as much?

They were laser cut kits, but I might be able to change the angle with a series of cuts to make the road coming in and the curve less sharp. To be honest I noticed that as I was curving the tape.

I have a very special gift from @chicken45 that will be on the layout. Many years ago he gifted me this tower. It is a brass model and beautifully built.



I decided to disassemble it and attempt to light the gooseneck lights on both sides. Strangely, there were two gooseneck lights per side, so I removed the upper lights and used the resulting hole to pass the wires inside.

I remember seeing prototype towers with dual lamps, usually pointing in different directions. I'm guessing for a crossing that put direct light on trains on both tracks.

 As to the scrap yard: is the scrap inbound or outbound on the barges? Or is this just a storage area served only by barge?

As for the tower, it will be placed on the inside of the nearest curved track instead of the place in that image.  I may put up a light pole nearby or a light on one of the telephone poles that will be going in later.

Ballasted all but the turnouts on the west side. Bought some Milliput epoxy putty to create the road apron slopes up to the track crossings. So far so good. We’ll see how well it hardened in the morning. Once I lay the gravel and sand roads over the pencil markings, I can move the layout back to its moorings (pun intended) where I can start working on the east side of the channel. Thinking about adding the Formica fascia before the move back, but I can always move it again later.

Using the milliput, I made a slab of road for between the businesses representing the road from the concrete jungle. Of course I could not resist adding a huge burnout on the pavement from first and second gear…

The concrete transitions to grave just past the elevated trusses and takes one to the Old Crow Speed shop, across the bridge over the channel, and off to other points east…
