Finished up and wetted the ballast on the far end. At the near end the ballast has completely solidified. Track cleanup and crock picking is next after the far section has dried.

Kind of surprised how dark the ballast is, but I think it will look good.

@robert3985 , the mold release worked well and the cat pole assemblies come out of their holes well.







I found this Elmers both for laying down the 2/3 glue water pre-ballast glue, and for the 50/50 wetting glue. It mixes just like white glue but dries clear and more flat than satin-y but hardly noticeable.

It really looks good, it's going to be an fantastic section of the layout when done.  I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but it looks like you forgot a tie in the lower right corner of the middle picture.

I repainted the open water, channel water, and the beach runoff. I need to mop the channel with gloss gel, at least from the bridges to the back, mainly so I can install the bridges. They have slip joiners to allow them to be removed.

Need to install a sunken car, and some dripping runoff portals through the sea wall.







Added dirt over the caulk joints for the elevated line’s support posts and bridge support walls to blend that surface back together.



@peteski here is the location where the cat poles are, in place and removed. The post holes disappear at this viewing angle, as intended, so I can photograph with or without catenary.

Today, I am working on some details for the layout. First, I made some single cattails that will run along the ditch between the graded interchange track and the elevated main berm wall. Some will go along the break wall edge too.

These will be individually painted bristles cut from the cheep flat paint brushes. Fortunately, I have some REALLY thick brown paint to glob on the end for the cattail.



Next , filled my little kitbashed coal bin. Not sure where I am putting it yet. The aggregate seller and the LIRR IS have an “arrangement”.



Also pre weathered my wood crossings and the wood deck on the split bridge for installation prior to ballast.





I am also building my Bar Mills wooden fence that will be between the elevated trusses and the tenement housing at the back edge of the layout. The gang fight will be in there, under the trusses.



I “sanded” the beach and began adding water details in the channel so I can get the last two bridges installed. Note the 1950-something sedan that drove over the soon to be malformed sea wall edge, and never repaired. The car will be a cool play spot for the goofballs that will be on the beach.





Lastly, I am trying to determine tug boat and barge positions on the waterfront. Not sure I like how huge the barges are. They were listed as N when I bought them, but on receipt, the label said 40’ HO scale, and 85’ N scale.

The car is between two very low permanent bridges (see track work above). No navigation past the first bridge.

So this is a google map of the area I chose at the beginning.  What luck! A material dumping facility that I can model on the right hand waterfront! (seem that the missed a car in the channel, lol.

There are quite a few dead cars in the first barge - that's probably where the one you modeled in the channel ended up...

Finally dove into (pun intended) the gloss medium water effects on my channel and part of my waterfront on the layout. It is kinda fun. I am really pleased with the base color I used and the way the beach sand blends into the channel. It gave a nice sheen when it soaked into the beach sand a bit.  Some of the waves are still drying.
