Tim Horton encouraged me to add some pics of my completed fourth level of my nolix (modified helix).  All the construction is done except for the last two feet which you will see is being held up by clamps; I'm not quite sure of the configuration of that area yet.  I'm happy to report that the grade I chose met the second level of the layout bang on, you'd almost think I planned it that way...lol:

The purpose of the nolix is to establish a rise for the first level to meet up with the second, what's different about a nolix is its not standardized like a helix, as you can see each loop is a different length from the one before it.  The second and third level will be visible (the ones with trains on them), and the fourth level is on the other side of the support beams:

The support columns, not all in yet, will provide the skeleton for the mountain, the picture in the background will mostly not be visible and is to give a hint of the mountainous region surrounding my "main" mountain.

I debated whether to have staging in the nolix area that is hidden from view, currently I have ruled that out, but may change my mind latter if I feel more staging is required.  This layout will only comfortably handle two operators so I don't think we will be handling that many trains in a four hour period (or less):

The main purpose of the nolix is to provide me and my guests with the notion of big mountain mainline running, which I love to railfan around in our contemporary era (Yes, I know the West Coast Express never was in the Thompson Canyon for those rivet counters critiquing).  So sometime I hope to kick back on the chair and just watch the trains roll through the mountains:

Happy New Year everyone, and although I did not receive any Christmas railroading gifts, the finishing of this project was my main gift and my buddy's help - Graham Stokes - doing it  was my main blessing this holiday season.

Added lighting to the old Department of Public Works Depot to get it ready for sale.

Drop me a line if you're interested.  Might even have a trash truck to throw in with it.

Happy New Year, everyone!

That nolix is cool , a bit less flat to scenic abutting a mountain for the benefit of viewable mountain railroading .

This week I assembled an American Model Builders farm house for the Slocan Valley...a beautiful little kit which falls together.

and began preparing for the first operating session in 6 months.  I think I have simplified the car forwarding method even further and the excel spreadsheet which "drives" it should be very fast to write.

Tim Horton was also over today shooting vertical format pictures for a soon-to-be-submitted article.  Once the main shots were done we played around with my little Point-and-Shoot camera and took this shot which we think holds some potential for future experimentation.

Happy New Year everyone and best wishes for 2013!

Surprisingly productive this week.....   I have installed and wired the bulk of the yard trackage at Fort Nelson.  Aiming to have the main line and team track loop in before the end of 2012    If I can whip up the staging yard during January I may be able to run trains fairly soon.

So my memory is failing and I'm too lazy to look to see if I posted these earlier in December...   :|

I did the N scale version on these ex-KCS SD40-2's in early December for a couple of friends, one in Maine, one in Montreal.  One is a CP fan, the other CN.  Not sure how they get along, but they do...  :D

This guy only got one sunshade.  The prototype had the conductor sides missing.

I used Kaslo shops to swap out the cabs on these Kato C44-9W's.  Lot's of work, but turned out okay in the end.  The cabs won't sit flush and I don't like glue things together, so the small gap is a result.  I also did not remove the A/C units from these.  I may cut into one later, but that was a headache I didn't want to tackle just yet.

And finally, I liked the N Scale ones so much, I did a big brother version in HO.

Kinda put trains on the back burner for the last few weeks, due to possible up and coming bans. Been working on my AR15 while I still can.

I did get my NP NW2 the other day, and got some decals on the A4, but thats about it.

$25 dump truck  :|

Well at least it looks somewhat better than the logging truck. I really don't know how thay can sell these at such a high price while CMW can't give their vehicles away.

I've done a litttle more work on the 4x8. Also got the 2-8-0 from mom and dad for christmas.

What kit is that in the first picture?
