And a GP30B in the lashup as well. You be the man, for sure!

If you're working on a new version, would you be interested in doing a second set? :D  I keep telling myself I'm going to do the trio, too, but it's raining projects right now and there is so much robbing Peter to pay Paul in terms of my time I have to wonder if it will be possible in my lifetime. I have a DD35 on the bench with enough of the pieces done to be recognizable, but it's been in those pieces for at least two years now.

Yeah, maybe your original attempt had proportion issues, but... I dunno... from 4 feet away they look great. They certainly capture the spirit. The 855's were so ugly you just have to love 'em, even if out of sympathy. Locomotives designed by Rube Goldberg.

Wow!.  I love it.

Thanks! :D It has a problem stalling on my switches. I'm thinking of building a Hi-Rail utility trailer to act as another power pickup source but haven't found a prototype trailer to model it after yet. Any ideas? If so, please contact me off-list as to not hijack the thread.

B units, yea I'm nuts for those. DD35's, I've been running a number of them since 1990 but although I've had the ability to make them in Kato quality since 2000, I have only now started on them. I don't have so much as a time issue as a motivational issue, my most recent vacations though have reversed that, at least for the time being. I'm primariy an SP modeler but having grown up at the top of Cajon Pass I've always had a sweet spot for the big UP double diesels. Here's a couple pictures for other afficianado's.

Lordy. DDA35. U50C's, too. You are a man after my own heart. Great stuff. Curious - what did you use for trucks on the U50C? I discovered that splicing the long-equalizer ends of Atlas Trainmaster trucks is a near-perfect match for the ex-GTEL8500 trucks.

Top of Cajon? Victorville? I was born in Mojave and spent my first 25 years in Lancaster.

Apple Valley actually, from 65' to 66' and again from 71'  to 76'. I learned how to fly at Hesperia Airdrome which is about 100 ft from the ATSF/UP mainline. It's there that I saw the big UP diesels in person. I only wish I had had a video camera back then. I used to be Jim's N scale shells and as such have sold hundreds of shells over the years, I recall I made the shell and sideframes for the SDL39 that Bill Denton did such a good job on. Here's a picture of the lashup of them I made for myself.

The second set of improved C855's are for me, the first set is actually for George Johnson. I promised I'd make him a set way back, He's been waiting patiently so very many years for them. This picture is of an SP DD being led by an SDX45. In the hole waiting is one of my latest projects to complete, a UP U50 with see through radiators and detailed cab interior. Concor made a mediocre U50 but with a little work it really looks great.

Well im just about ready to prime and send it off to Jason(superturbine) for casting. The grill work is in and flush with the carbody. The doors are cut but i need to put styrene in for the new doors themselves. Also i need to put the radiator opening on top on the opposite end of the exhaust. The last major thing will be obtaining the pilots from Concor for modification and final casting.

Let me know what you guys think!

This isn't unusual, but they were pretty short lived.  I know some of them are running around, just not on the usual Hiawatha run I'm used to seeign them on.

And this is my GP39m in progress.

I also have a F40 Cabbage in the works, but it's for an article, so I'll spare you the pictures for now.   :P

Here is the latest-  just out of the shop.

No, it is not a GP7.  It is a GP7L.  (L stands for light?)

Unusual power.
Got lots.

What did you use for a drive under the U18B? The shell can be made by cutting a couple of doors worth of length out of an Atlas U23B, correct?

LN2800,

Chassis is a VO-1000 with the trucks reversed.  Inacurrate by only 6 N scale inches or 3 inches per side.

Shell is stock except for the gyralite.

Only primary shell inaccuracy is on the other side.  A GP7 phase 1a has no box behind the cab on the other side.  Wasn't worth it for me to make that change.
