I took this pic in Meridian, MS last week and thought, immediately, of your woodchip piles...

I think you nailed it!

I really like the chip pile, but the area around it seems way too green to me....The chips are all over the ground in the pic, dried and grey....

This is one of my favorite layouts to follow, BTW....keep it up!

thanks Bruce.
let's say that's the exact equipment that would be just off the edge of the bench work!

coos,
I agree, it's a bit to green. I'm working on that. I haven't been able locate a photo taken from a high angle looking down on the site.

My LHS recently reopened after burning to the ground Memorial Day weekend of 2014. I finally stopped by and was able to pick up large diameter styrene tube, 1/2" & 7/16" to replace the wood dowels for the chip conveyor. The styrene will be much easier to work with.....

In addition to the Lego store, don't forget the plumbing aisle at Lowes ... lots of options for cylinders there .. including tanks and other shapes .. also, the thick yard sale signs at wal-mart are great for cheap styrene ..

That looks sweet!  Do those conveyors require any more support, i.e., piers?

I'm saying no. Page 90 of the Nov 1998 MR shows a paper mill with that style conveyor. They have one support where the cylindrical cover starts and that is it. The rings are the support.

the photo I am working from shows no support.....I've been contemplating adding a center support for each, but i'll probably never get around to it. the scene is "good enough" as is and I have more to do elsewhere...
