Needed a door for the office.....started with plain 0.010 styrene spray painted the building base color, put masking tape where the stiles and rails would be:

Not perfect, but not bad:

Looks acceptable from the normal viewing distance, I think it will look better after weathering:

Very cute!  The roof looks quite nice, not too over-weathered.

The coal dealer includes a small storage shed across the track from the scale/office. I wanted something different for the roof. I tried metal roofing made from aluminum foil. Shiny side up, smooth it on a soft surface with your finger....

Use a dull pencil to make the ribs. Use a very light touch so as not to tear the foil....

Coated the roof with glue and set the shed in place....

Result is ribs on top.....

Trim about 1/16 away from the edge of the styrene roof with scissors, wrap the foil around and under the edge....

I'm happy with the results, paint and weather and it'll be all set.

That looks tremendous.  You are very creative with materials- a virtue for scenery.

In the home stretch on the coal dealer, printed a sign for the shed and added fencing. All that remains is the sign on the office, a section of fencing and gates...

How does this coal facility work?  Obviously I can see cars come in and drop off the coal and it goes up and into the silo, but how does it come back out again and who takes it away?  Can a truck fit under the silo?  It looks so low, but trains are bigger than trucks.

I didn't plan the site and track placement with this facility in mind....I saw the photo and made it fit the site. On the prototype, the track isn't under the horizontal conveyor atop the silo, it would be outboard of it, but like I said, I made it work in the space available because I thought it was something different as coal dealers go....If you go back a page you can see the entire site. A truck would enter the gate to the right of the shed, go to the back of the yard and make a U-turn and then pull under the silo. Coal is dumped from a chute overhead. Then the truck would pull ahead to the scale under the roof at the office, then leave thru the other gate. A truck does fit underneath. You're right, it looks low, but I followed the scale drawings published with the article.
