This could become interesting . I am thinking a Sperry Railcar might now be a big step closer to being made .

That is a good news (for H0 modelers) as their masters and castings were of rather poor quality.  But it doesn't do anything for me. Why? Didn't you also read that they are getting out on N scale? That means no N Scale Shapeways items.

I guess I'm guilty of not being a careful reader myself as I fixated on this statement on their website: We are phasing out our line of N scale models, with many models already discontinued.  I should have read the rest of statement below that sentence.

I can only hope this will lead to less sucky Comet II cars but knowing the maker, it will probably come with the wrong under frame and I doubt he has redesigned the cars to get rid of the 2 foot thick walls.

Isn't shapeways the king of thicklessness .

up1950s: You probably should have just stuck with the common word "thickness". "ThickLESSness", if accepted as a word, would imply thin (the suffix -less indicating an absence of thick).

Chris, I suspect that he meant "thin-walled".

I guess you mature people never watched this show
. I just twisted the word into a close enough . And no it isn't the opposite meaning , Thick means thick , Thickless if it was a word means the lack of thick , Thicklessness , is the practice of the lack of thick . :RUEffinKiddingMe: By the way , if you can put up with the bubble gum host and company antics , the vid's are very entertaining in a glad I didn't do it kind of way .

Well, I understood the word you coined Richie but no, I don't watch much of the current network or made-for-cable TV. Instead, I spend my free time down in my workshop listening to music and also on model RR forums.  I do however have a fondness for classic comedies such as the Three Stooges, Monty Python and movies such Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs, Airplane and similar.   I do however run onto some occasional shows that are currently on but I'm not all that impressed with what I see.  MTV stopped being interesting since it stopped playing .... music videos.    I think that happened like 20 years ago.   However, I'm far from being a mature adult.  8)

Are they that bad? I thought of a couple for Horizon cars, but I may rethink that..

I recently purchased a couple of N-Scale shells from Shapeways.  Both were very rough in appearance.  They have horizontal printing lines that can't be removed without ruining much of the "cast-on" detail.  One had a huge dent in the roof from end to end.  I managed to get Shapeways to do a reprint which says a lot for their customer service.  Possibly their HO offerings are of better quality but I would be careful of getting anything done in N until they can improve their quality control.

Damn they didn't fix those lines yet . Their cutter must not be plum or the tip isn't flat and perpendicular to the shaft . Maybe they should only produce Milwaukee proto cars .

Their cutter must not be plum or the tip isn't flat and perpendicular to the shaft .

No cutting involved--Shapeways uses an additive process (3D printing), not a subtractive process (machining).

Basically, they're building everything up from thin layers, and each layer is broken down into square pixels--so you get "jaggies" along any edge that doesn't align directly with one of the three axes.
