Here is the latest pic of the re-worked FEF-2 casting.  I am now using a dyed urethane, which makes it harder to mill-out (Richie you can imagine).  But the end results will be worth it.  Flaws are much easier to notice on a black verse white casting.  The casting is temporarily shown on a ATSF Northern / Kato  frame.  Next I will redo the FEF-1 casting, the master mold was damaged.

Jason Smith

Nice , did you add the dye , if so maybe a bit less will give it more opacity so candling would be a bit easier during milling ?

Development finally is complete for NZT's first N Scale kit: the Pine Creek Railroad enginehouse. It's a tough kit to cast--they're produced one at a time, which is reflected in the MSRP of $85.00. Visitors to the real Pine Creek Railroad in Alaire State Park in Wall Township, New Jersey will be able to get them for less at their gift shop; price there is yet to be determined.

It's very nearly a brick-for-brick reproduction. The kit includes 9 main structural castings and 14 detail castings, plus 17 laser-cut windows and doors. Windows have separate upper and lower sash parts that even feature the window locks.

I hope some really sharp modeler gets one and does a good build; I'm losing my ability to do fine work, so the test build is a little rougher than I'd like. Anyway, it should be ready for purchase in about two weeks as I crank up production. It will be available online exclusively from Stonebridge Models.

Over the last several weekends, I went from this:

To this:

Painted a good chunk of the track, started getting a layer of basic ground cover and ballast down, and mocked up some of the industrial buildings. Almost ready to run through the operating sequence for the first time since I expanded to two HCDs. LHS is holding an open house this weekend, including home and club self guided tours.  Stopped by the LHS, picked up some more cars I don't need and checked a few layouts.  Going to see a few more tomorrow, hoping this gets me back in the game of working on my own.

I love the openness. Everyone is always cramming too much in and you did very well by leaving spaces!

Got the strange urge to shoot my first video yesterday.

Not bad for a first try.  I really like the scenery, too.  Reminds me very strongly of someplace I've seen before!

Stoney Smith Designed, Shapeways produced, and I filed the ends flat for body mounted couplers, took about 1/8" off the bolsters, plated over the windows, and added seams to the cupola roof.  Decals are a combination of Microscale N scale sets.  The BN logos are from a twinstack set, the roadname from an E8/E9 set, and lettering sets for the numbers.  I have a need for better Z scale lube plates.  Grab irons and probably rebuilt end railings to come.

This caboose sat in Wenatchee in 2008.  Lindsay Korst photo.
