Once again the immortal a$$hats of Railwire have staved off the dreaded "no inspiration" plague for another modeler......flat cars beware; I have ideas and inspiration...........to the bench Robin...................!  :scared:
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Puddington,

I found these loads while perusing the Walter Strong collection of 50s Alaska RR ops -

http://www.alaskarails.org/historical/Strong/WRS0213.jpg

On this one I am particularly fond of the generator series of cars, and the graders -

There's also this page from Strange Freight from alaskarails.org:

I especially like the school bus on a TTX flatcar.

It sounded like a good idea at the time... too bad the caboose wasn't in on the plan.

The best one from that bunch is the corvette t top on the flatbed trailer.

I'm surprised that this unusual (but regularly scheduled) flat car load hasn't been brought up yet.

Peteski, its regular load, however its pretty much only on BNSF between Wichita KS and Seattle (Everett) WA.

And post 1996 I believe, prior to that, Boeing would ship aircraft fuselages as sections, which is what I hope to one day do.

Remember seeing BN run flats with a few aircraft parts on trains through Edgemont SD when I was a kid between 1991-1995. Then the AF moved dad to Hawaii, lack of trains for 3 years sucked...

Regular or not, it is still one of the most unusual loads you'll ever see on a flat car.   Isn't that what the original question was about?  Ideas for flat car loads?

That's how many narrow gauge lines built tank cars - just put a tank on a flatcar.  They usually didn't start with a tank CAR though...  It would be an idea for a MOW car.  Just take an old tank car, put it on an old flatcar, and give it an MOW number.

Yea, my first thought was "Hipped-roof Xfer caboose? Huh? What?"  Obviously, this is a BN move, as the window trim on the shack's been painted BN green and the NP would never do anything but its staid depot tan.

Several western roads had standard portable stations and other buildings.  This is the first picture I can remember of one being moved, though, and it does look like a transfer caboose.  Open up the windows and a freelancer could do it.
