Your steamers amaze me!
Well, I decided to take the plunge on an HCD layout. I had just enough Atlas code 55 and unitrak left to make it work; I based it off of the MR Alkali Central HO 4x8 project layout. However, industries reflect my locale, I've added a second track to the industry on the main run, replaced a crossing with a switchback, and cut the big SP mainline run with a simple interchange track. I'll be writing a thread up on it in the Layout Engineering Report section soon

Since I have such a fascination with turnouts I needed to make more feeders and add another terminal strip this weekend.

Still plugging away on my fertilizer building. I suspect Richie will have completed a half-dozen steamers by the time I finish :D

Awesome Richie!

I've been doing a little more roughing in of things. I'm waiting on a klein order of turnouts to show up before I commence track laying. My apologies about the photo quality as some were taken with my iphone.

The new Grand Trunk Southern is moving from the planning stage to the benchwork stage.  The basic benchwork and backdrops are in place and I am now working on the subroadbed, in between golf games.

The CRS-20 project is keeping me busy.   Making significant progress on the long hood.   It will continue to look very odd until I chop the nose.

Good start on the CRS-20 project, Andy.

With the summer holidays finally here and the PGE 100 Convention now behind me, I have some quality modelling time.  I have been painting and weathering the track sections for my main line.  Here are the track sections for the lower deck:

and the upper deck:

Here is what one of the sections of track looks like with some temporary ballast:

I also built two of the new Briggs Models Minibox kits, which will become BCR Maintenance of Way tool cars:

Next up is drilling holes in the roadbed and soldering feeders to the track sections.

Here's what I currently have on the workbench...

Four out of five started with old Con-Cor models, and four out of five have been the guinea pigs while I learn how to use a rotary tool.

Front - first attempt at a 'Boise Budd' demotored RDC using old Con-Cor shells.

Middle left - took the bathtubs off a Deluxe Innovations coalporter, which is the first stage towards a Herzog 9200-series ballast hopper.

Middle right - slowly making progress on a CP 343000-series woodchip gondola using a Con-Cor car with extended sides and ends from CS Models.  I actually built this several years ago then realised that the stock CC gon was a panel too short, so it's been torn down and is being rebuilt with stretched sides.

Rear - more ballast cars, this time old Con-Cor covered hoppers that I've shortened and removed the bays in preparation for ballast hopper gates.  These will follow ATSF prototype but may end up being the first cars I letter for my freelance road Edmonton, Jasper & Spokane Rwy.

Is this the shell that has popped up on ebay a few times?  I have one as well that I have on my list of projects.  I'd love to see how you are crafting the tender.  Are you going to us the kato mechanism?

 8) Already 29 July, where is the news about MTL August 2012 new releases that someone reports about this time of month?   :?

I wish B&O heavy weight parlor cars were in the list, but I am not holding my breath.  Budget needs a recovery period anyway after I expanded to three B&O h/w trains.
