Problems with Pix
« on: May 10, 2012, 12:49:20 PM »
Some guys are having problems see pix I linked to a forum post  (Layout Engineering, my C&I Sub thread).  I can see them fine.  Anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it?

Thanks.
Regards,
Paul

Paul,

Try posting the straight url that points to an image with the img brackets to see if we can access the file.

Best wishes, Dave

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Are you getting the correct url for showing the pix?  If the pix is a part of a webpage they will not show up when using the image tags... you have to right click on the photo itself and click on Properties or click "View Image" to get the correct url for the image.  Also, some picture hosting services do not allow hot links to be used, which could also be why they are not showing up in posts.

As I mentioned in your C&I thread, it's because you are linking to pictures over at nscale.net. Once logged into that site, I can see your pictures. If I log out, I can't,

Most forum operators don't allow that .. best to use a hosting service

OK.  As mentioned in my latest post to the thread, I will see about uploading these to a hosting service and re-linking.  Would there be these issues with TrainBoard?  Those always worked for the (da, da, da, duuum!) Atlas Forum!

Paul, give us the actual URL link to one of the photos to see if we can figure out why they worked on Atlas forum but not here.
Just copy the URL in your message as plain text (without using [ img ] [ /img ] tags.

Peteski:

here is a link to the first photo I included in the most-recent post (that was talking about the layout as opposed to the side-discussion about posting pix )

I hope you can help.  One of the other posts said they think that nscale.net is sending a 1 pixel blank image instead of the real image to those who are not logged on to nscale.net.

Paul,
What you need is not that link - it has to start with the HTTP: portion, but needs to end in .JPG or .BMP or something similar.  Otherwise the forum can't interpret it as an image.

Exactly what Philip said - that is not a URL pointing to an image. The forum will not be able to display it.

I clicked on that link and I got a blank screen (well, actually a 1x1 pixel GIF image).  They do that to protect themselves from people doing just what you want to do.  If you can somehow find a URL which ends with .jpg, .gif or .png then that will work.   But you will most likely view the source of the page on which you see the photo. Assuming that it allows you to view the source.
