Atlas PS-1 release 1 announced
« on: March 05, 2012, 04:39:52 PM »

The first group of Atlas PS-1 40' boxcars w/7' sliding door have been announced.  An interesting mix of roads, but a lot to make many people happy while saving many of the bigger names (and schemes) for future releases.  Two road numbers each.  This appears to be the as-built group:

Boston & Maine (Brown/White)
Buffalo Creek (Brown/White/Black)
Cotton Belt (Brown/White/Blue)
Lehigh Valley (Brown/White/Black)
Maine Central (Brown/White)
Milwaukee Road (Brown/White/Black)
Rutland (Yellow/Green/Black)
Western Pacific (Brown/Yellow)

It would be tempting to change eras since those will be great looking cars but,I'll pass.

Did anybody notice these new cars will have body mounted couplers?

Yeah, it was discussed back in January from the Springfield announcement. ;)

Hmm, waiting to see pricing, but I'm considering unloading select Kadee/MTL cars and upgrading to the Atlas cars where it makes sense.

I am still gonna lower and body mount most of the KD/MT cars I already have, but as some of you might guess I can be lazy (or sometimes busy).

Well, with an MSRP of $26.95, it's not going to be pretty.

All this bar raising is expensive. Thanks

That's where I'm at.

If there's some minor filing involved in order to lower an MT PS1, that's fine.  But if I need to remove all sorts of underneath stuff... Then probably not.

They should be about $4 more than the ARA boxcars

Atlas has adopted Kato's Eastern bias...wait, that's a Western bias... maybe it's an offset....aw, who the heck knows.....

I like those Mil. Rd cars.....
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I'd hold off on buying undecs, as all of those roads are on Atlas' target list.  It's just a matter of time before they all roll out, along with other variations.

An MSRP of only $26.95 is very good considering all of the variations that have been tooled for this model - multiple door types, door widths, roofs, brakewheels; separate ladders; new trucks; and etched roofwalk.  The street price still will be under $20.

This is a huge deal.  I'm glad the X58 was first by a few months so that the PS-1 doesn't steal its thunder!

Metal wheels too.  Are these new or have some other recent releases had this?
