I had a very interesting day an the Rocky Mountain Toy Train show - Exactrail was there.  :?  And they had their new 4427's.

I guess these must have been mentioned and even shown in pictures but I don't remember it.  I babbled a bunch about N scale and he was fairly emphatic that this year will be good for N scale.  I don't remember what all I said, but I believe I mentioned wanting more transition flats and gons, a lo-deck 89' flat w/racks and I'm sure a bunch of others.  Chris is a 50's modeler so maybe some earlier stuff will make it's way to production.  He mentioned there will less foobies with big Chris gone, which might hurt a chance at a SP gon rerun for me.  :|

I also had a conversation with the sole proprietor of Railstars.  He has a control system that's all open source and completely customizable.   Without getting into a long discussion here about it, basically, it can change to any new technology that might come along without being tied to any legacy stuff.  So if you build a system for DCC with throttles and turnout controls and such, and something new comes along for locomotive control,  all you would have to do is get a new module for that and the rest would still be fine to work.  Go to the site and read on it, it's pretty neat.

Finally, I got 70 Train Shed Cyclopedias for $1 each and managed to piss off an Iwata dealer.  Good times.

I managed to find some time to finish the walls and roof on the Kimberly Clark building.  The main building is 24" x 44" in size.  The mostly hidden continuous running track along the backdrop passes through the back left 1/3 of the building.  I still need to paint the building, paint the rubberized membrane roofing, add details and weather the whole thing, then add pavement, interior loading docks, ground cover, etc.  These are just cell phone grab shots.  The roof top details are just place holders and are not attached.

I don't know... if you ask me I'd say that the 'tang deserves the Conrail Quality markings and not the wheels on rails emblem.  We are talking about quality here.

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

I'm still wondering why you are "detailing" a brand new car! Shouldn't they have done that before you bought it, or have you already gone jumping Miami street corners with it there Vice cop?

I'm late but, I scratch-built this car this past week-end.  I came across the picture on the net and the car just begged to be built.  Basic construction is Evergreen styrene, MDC arch-bar trucks, and MT2004 couplers.  Decals were done on my ink jet printer using MS Works and Testors decal film.

Very late this "weekend"...sorry.

Finished ballasting and painting the track, finished and installed 150 trees, and added a couple more lights to illuminate things over the Kootenay River scene.

Anda short video of a C-Liner led Eastbound crossing the scene.

Have a great week everyone

Ian:
Most of the grass on the detachable extension is Heki 4mm "Late Summer" and "Autumn" grass I got from Scenic Express.
Up towards the front is the summer, while the browner stuff at the back is the autumn.
Kinda went a little crazy with it.
Up in front I also mixed in some WS dark & medium green static grass: the 2mm is a nice filler / contrast, but too shiny on it's own, IMHO.

Under it all is some tannish/brown dirt my son & I found right across the street from our LHS, of all places  8)

Dave V: I guess the Juniata layout could fit, but is there also room for you to drive?  :D

I like your freelance boxcab. Is it made from a caboose?

The boxcab's basic components are an old Bachmann caboose and a Kato 11-106 power chassis.

I spent way too much time on this thing today...

Since the great big windows look so good, and since I've been going all higgledy piggledy with LEDs lighting everything in sight, I realized that the next thing I needed wasn't lighting, but rather stuff to see when the lights are on!

So we called in the carpenters and interior decorators...

It took about an hour to figure out the stair case.  It's still not quite right, but once everything's closed up it can only be viewed through the windows and a very particular angle, so I'm not worried about building code accuracy...

And of course, you need a convenience for the employees and patrons of the railway...

I'm only going to light the men's room and main hall on the first floor.  During the era I'm modeling, there were very few functions being carried out in the Cumberland station, so most of the office space was unused.  The dispatcher and superintendent's office were on the second floor, so apart from the hallway and stairwell, those will be the only lights upstairs.

And to think, a few weeks ago, I was still in window limbo, and the building looked like this after sitting in storage for over six years!
