Dave,
Your highway bridges look nice. Will you be using foam or cork to raise the road surface up to the deck height of the bridge?

Thanks, Rich!  Good eye.  I used cork roadbed and styrene to shim the road up to the first bridge.  Obviously, I haven't finished the road, but it's roughed into place.  I've procrastinated here, because, as you can see, I'm going to need to build a retaining wall (or correct the hill) and guardrails where the road meets the bridge.  I set the second bridge at approximately the same elevation, so that it should be an easy transition between the bridges:

Oh, and if anyone is curious, here's an overview showing the future road and twin bridge alignments:

This second bridge will form part of the scenic divider between Aberdeen and Hamlet.

Thanks again,
DFF

I dunno.  I'm not sure how far I'll take the kudzu.  I don't want to overdo it, so I've considered leaving it where it is and hope it doesn't take over more of the layout.

I think it would good if you carried it out along the highway towards the corner of the layout.
It might look real nice on the fills and would be a slick way to blend the base of the overpass.

Excellent idea - although it really does need a car shape or two and an old chicken coop under it to be real.

I took two days off of work to recover from some dental work yesterday.  Today, I was feeling up to getting into the train room to tackle some small projects.  I had been running trains a lot over the last few months, and a number of locomotives in the fleet were showing signs of needing a good cleaning and lubing.  I was able to tackle three locomotives this afternoon with a full tear-down, cleaning out the old lube, polishing the electrical pickups, Beardenizing, lubing, reassembly, and cleaning the wheel sets.  All three are running like new again.  I have a couple of more that I hope to also tackle this weekend.

I also worked a little bit on the road between Aberdeen and Hamlet.  The two bridges are roughed into place, and I fit the roads on the approaches to each.  Next will be building up the landforms and road shoulders around the road sections.

Have a great weekend,
DFF

Yeah, but it will be painted a much lighter gray, as I did on the other end of the road in Aberdeen, to represent a weather-beaten southern road.  DKS sanded the black styrene on his layout to look as used asphalt, but I have had better success by painting mine.

Dave- I've got a pack of those Rix Products Guard Rails. They're not galvanized rail & post, they are the cast concrete ones.

I'm not going to use them, but I'd be happy to send them to you -no charge. I just don't know if they fit your prototype. I also have a pack of the new metal plate Woodland Scenics grade crossing that I'm also not planning to use which I could throw in. My roads are just shy of 2" wide, and those crossings (methinks) are 1 5/8".

Let me know if you're interested.

And the layout is looking excellent as always!

Dave, Any update photos of the new road section? Are you going to use some type of guard rail along the hill side, both were the road comes out of town and at the tee intersection? Does someone make a nice highway guard rail set, or is this scratch build territory?
