I am in the process of acquiring this lovely 12 x 20 ft building for the future Beer Line! I have room on my property and my wife is fully supportive. It is insulated and heated, and wired for multiple circuits. I will have to wait until spring to get power run to it, but I am really excited about the possibilities.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

If it doesn't work out for the trains you could take it ice fishing :D

I almost finished these two this weekend, but not quite there yet. Two things I still need to finish are the hydraulic lifts on the truck and to paint the auto ramp (although it looks good in it's naked brass colors...).   :D

Thanks!  I was able to find a shop blowing the Explorers out at $6.95 and picked up more than a few.  :D. May have to go back for a few more so I can work on setting up the auto yard.

Good idea Roger. Or maybe I can make it into a house boat! Get some 55 gallon drums and some duct tape....good to go. We have some work to do it get it dug out of the snow and moved. Hoping for some warmer weather....it was -27 F at my house last night.

Best wishes, Dave

Some unexpected free time yielded more scenery experiments.

It's beginning to look at bit too much like Spring here.

More in the Layout Engineering Report section.

I also finally had some time to read some of the MRP2012 issue.  A must read in my opinion.  Mr. Dance's article and layout is terrific.  I got the impression he had quite an undertaking in the works from the posts here, but I had no idea . . . . . .  LOTS of novel ideas to solve tough layout design problems.  Plenty of fine work and ideas coming from our friends to the North these days.  Well done fellas.

With my unexpected free time, I relocated some coal loaders on the K&N District.  Now to come up with the operating scheme for serving the loadouts in their new locations.  I heard SAH has bid on a job on that end of the railroad, so I'm sure the new plan will go flawlessly!  :-)

I guess that makes them portable coal loaders.  The K&N will never be the same after I get done with it.   :D

Andy:

The shadowbox design of the lower deck scenes is now quite apparent in the newest photos of your layout.  Looking forward to seeing it in April!

I've started working on the scenery (other than the flat ground cover) for my Kankakee Station module.

The actual scene can be found on Bing at: http://www.bing.com/maps/?v=2&cp=qvkwf97pb1w1&lvl=19.44&dir=91.59&sty=o&where1=Kankakee%2C%20IL&form=LMLTCC .

Here's the approximate area I'm planning to model:

And here's how far I've gotten so far:

The anvil at the left of the picture was the easiest way to "clamp" the styrofoam hills to the module. Before this weekend, I never imagined myself ever uttering the words, "I need more anvils." :)

Work to this point has concentrated on getting the Court Street overpass built, and setting it at the proper elevation, since clearance underneath it is a critical measurement. The problem is made a bit more interesting by the fact that the overpass and the forward part of the abutments has to be removable, to allow my Kankakee River bridge to "nest" between the hills when the two modules are boxed together for transport.

Here's the real overpass:

And the model so far:

My Silhouette cutter made creating the shallow arch in the overpass a lot easier.

The Cumberland Planning Department was hard at work again today, laying out the major highways around town.

Here's Baltimore Street, which will be the heart of Downtown Cumberland.  On the other side of the station, I'm working out the location and grades of US 48, which divides north and south Cumberland, and passes just south of the WM station.

Looks like Jezzers, Hamster and Captain Slow are hung up behind a Caravan enthusiast!  Well this will end badly, I'm sure!
