My project of the Year?

Geared Steam.

I now have a working shay (again), a Class B Climax, and a 2 truck heavy heisler, all with working valve gear.

Next year, Hopefully more logging equipment, re-build and re-detail the class C climaxes, mabey another Heisler, and mabey a small logging layout, since the 4th Sub looks like it will be a while before I am in a place to be able to build it.

For me, nothing can compare to this accomplishment in 2011: the birth of my first child (she's pictured here with my step-son):



As for model railroading, the one project that I am most proudest of is designing, tearing out, and rebuilding the trackage in the Tucker area on seusscaboose's NKP layout.  The layout operates much more smoothly with the minimization of a bottleneck on four mainline tracks and a new three-track yard for use in switching out a nearby industrial area.  I am proud and honored to be a part of that project.

Thanks, but nothing much to it really.  Just a Kaslo cab spliced on an Atlas body.  That unit with only the red paint is almost out of the paint shop.

I think I'd qualify the ESM CPR cars as "project of the year"....but then again I'm biased....

I take it back ... there is a project I worked on that took a chunk of the year to figure out, just not for the layout:

I ventured into a project that I had never attempted by purchasing a Kato E-8 offer during their Labor Day sale.  What I received was a partially assembled E-8 with several body shells and no instructions.
Assembling the engine, i.e., determining how to install the trucks and couplers in the proper orientation could be called: "my project of the year." 
I did gain a B&O E-8 from this project because the body shell was included;  I actually bought an Amtrak E-8 and switched shells.   The engine I assembled still makes a rubbing noise with any shell installed.
