Finished the dockside warehouse on the "Alameda-in-a-Box" layout:

This is the final backdrop flat for the layout, so now I can get to finishing the oil tanks & quonset hut.
Happy Holidays!

Hi everyone:

This week saw work on the bridges for the Kootenay River crossing scene on the C&W.  I just need to add rivet decals to the 1/2 deck girders and to paint them.  Material for the distinctive piers is on order so until it shows up I will work on backdrops here and in the Slocan and Troup Jn areas.

The prototype Kootenay River crossing # 4 consists of:
 - 3x 1/2 deck girder bridges
 - 1 island
- 2x 1/2 deck girder bridges
- second smaller island
- 2x 1/2 deck girder bridges
- 1x 157 through truss bridge
- 1x deck girder bridge (on a curve)

The model will compress this to:
- 2x 65' 1/2 deck girder bridges
- island
- 2x 65' 1/2 deck girder bridges
- 1x 150' through truss bridge
- 1x40' deck girder bridge

The Through truss is a brass BLMA model (close enough for me) while the deck girders use modified Micro-engineering girder side frames with interior bracing added.

I will post progress as it is made.

I spent time the week before finishing painting all the track.  Boy, this is one MRR job I am not fond of due to the risk of messing up track that has been functioning well for years.  The results are worth it though.  The last area of track to be painted was from Kootenay Bridge, through Nelson yard to Troup Junction and had over 60 switches.

Happy Holidays everyone

Joy and I went to Mystic, CT this weekend. Since it was Christmas, we almost missed the Seaport. In one of the building, they had some impresive N scale ships:

The aircraft carrier was about 5 feet long!

The APL container ship was just as large.

All those Walthers containers get the fuzzy camera treatment.

One of the largest continual N scale diorama i have ever seen. It was about 15 by 25 feet! Showing Mystic Seaports in the 1860's.

It was very impressive.

We also went to the Mystic Aquarium, which was a lot of fun. We played around with some Rays, Sharks.
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Finished the trainphones on Bob's C-liners

Finished the Frankendiesel using parts from the scrap box, except for the new trucks purchased on-line...

Played with the S-2 switcher and some other S-2's...

And getting angry at Google Plus because apparently I can't access the image links directly anymore.  I fixed it, but boy was that cumbersome.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

The APL container ship shows you how large it is, if it was
modeled on a layout. There is too much compression when
I see container ports or dock scenes modeled.

Had some time yesterday (a nice rainy Monday) so I fitted 21 cars with new MT trucks/couplers. They were part of the 40+ cars I have sitting on the workbench shelf that have rapido couplers, or no trucks/couplers. So now have some "almost new" beer can tankers, two bay covered hoppers, 40ft boxcars, a few 50ft tankers, 50ft boxcars, and a couple reefers to run on the layout!

Had picked up two 10 pack of MT trucks/couplers at our LHS's "12 days of Christmas" sale. Also checked out some of the new Bachmann rolling stock...NICE! The caboose cars are heavy!! Tankers look nice, boxcars look pretty good too. Soon I'll probably add a few of them to the rolling stock inventory.
